Lady Lynx Advance to Eastern Conference Final!

July 30, 2005 - USL First Division (USL-1)
Toronto Lynx News Release

The Toronto Lady Lynx continued their 2005 W-League campaign, defeating the Boston Renegades 2-1 this afternoon in the Eastern Conference semifinals in Ottawa.

Toronto started well, but it was Boston who struck first in the 14th minute. Meghan Welcome's pass found Marissa Brown who had gotten past her marker. Brown hit Welcome's pass first time past Toronto goalkeeper Stacy VanBoxmeer to make it 1-0.

Toronto equalized in the 39th minute. Melanie Booth's impressive run down the right side ended with a centering pass to Holly Lincoln. Lincoln hit first time past Boston 'keeper Ariana Criscione to grab the equalizer.

Toronto took the lead in the 44th minute through the W-League's regular season top scorer Kim Warner. After miscommunication from Boston, Holly Lincoln sent a ball in that Warner caught up with, leaving two Boston defenders behind. Warner made no mistake, heading the ball into the empty goal for the crucial second goal. It was 2-1 to Toronto at halftime.

The second half produced substantial pressure from Boston as they sought to cancel out the first half deficit. Toronto's back line stood firm, as did goalkeeper Stacy VanBoxmeer, making key saves in the second half to preserve the one goal margin. It was 2-1 to Toronto as full time sounded.

Holly Lincoln picked up a goal and an assist this afternoon, and Kim Warner added to her W-League goal tally with her first half strike.

Toronto now face the Ottawa Fury who defeated Long Island 5-1 in today's other semifinal to contest the Eastern Conference title tomorrow, July 31st, at 2:00 PM at Keith Harris Stadium in Ottawa.

Notes: Toronto finished the regular season in second place of the Eastern Conference's Northern Division with a record of 11-3-0. Boston finished in second place of the Northeast Division with a record of 9-5-0. Both clubs faced each other once this season, with Toronto winning 4-3 on June 17th.
