
Lady Eagles hold on for 5-4 win

(Charlotte, NC) - The Charlotte Lady Eagles hosted the Richmond Kickers Destiny tonight at beautiful Waddell Stadium. Tina Murphy led the offense with two goals and an assist in the Lady Eagles 5-4 win.
The Kickers Destiny got on the scoreboard first in the 23rd minute of the match. Jessica Myers sent a lead pass over the head of Eagles defender Karyn Eusey. Richmond forward Jennifer Parsons ran onto the ball and beat Lady Eagles goalkeeper Lindsey Deason with a shot to the bottom left corner.
Charlotte tied things up in the 31st minute, when Christy Timbers was fouled in the box by Robbins. Tina Murphy took the penalty kick and beat Jessica Hussey to the right side. The goal was Tina's eighth of the season, leading the Lady Eagles. The Lady Eagles got their second goal of the match just five minutes later. Christy Timbers received a pass from the midfield, and sent a hard shot to the far post. Ashley Swinehart got a foot on it at the goal line to ensure the goal. The half ended with the Lady Eagles leading the Kickers Destiny 2-1. Charlotte outshot Richmond 11-1 in the half.

Three minutes into the second half, the Lady Eagles extended their lead. Ashley Swinehart drove down the right flank and served a ball in, looking for Tina Murphy on the far post. Richmond intercepted the cross but sent the ball into their own net. In the 51st minute defender Paige Ledford, on the left side, laid a ball off for Tina Murphy at the top of the box. Tina found the top right corner with a perfectly placed shot, and the 4-1 lead. Richmond came back with pressure in the 54th minute. Brianna Kidder passed to Jennifer Parsons who put a shot high and on goal. Goalkeeper Lindsey Deason made an attempt at the save, but it slipped through her outstretched arms and just under the cross bar. Two minutes later the Lady Eagles struck again. Tina Murphy made a cross from the right side for Christy Timbers who was all alone inside the six yard box. Timbers scored with a shot to the inside left post. Richmond turned up the pressure in the last ten minutes. AB Robbins scored in the 83rd minute off the feed from Stannard, then four minutes later Jennifer Parsons scored her third goal of the match with the assist by Wycinsky to pull within one goal. The Lady Eagles held on in the final minutes for the 5-4 victory. The win brings Charlotte's record to 10-2-1 for 31 points to maintain their point lead in the Division.
The Eagles and Lady Eagles return to home field action on Saturday, July 24th for the last doubleheader of the 2004 season, and the Lady Eagles last regular season match. The Lady Eagles will host the Carolina Dynamo Women at 5:30 pm followed by the Eagles game at 8:00 pm. The Eagles will host Southern Division rival and defending Pro Soccer League Champions, the Wilmington Hammerheads. The Eagles and Lady Eagles play all regular season home games at beautiful Waddell Stadium located on the campus of E.E. Waddell High School, 1 mile west of I-77 on Nations Ford Road (Exit 4).
