
Lady Eagles Fight Hard for Draw at Home

Charlotte, NC: After rain, for the second week in a row at Charlotte, the Lady Eagles and Dayton Dutch Lions had a late start. Ashley Botts scored a goal in each half for Dayton creating the go ahead goal and the tieing goal. Lulu Merrill blasted the first goal for the Lady Eagles on a set piece in the 82nd minute to tie the game. Laura Novikoff quickly followed with the second goal off a header served in the box by Kelsey Fenix. After all the excitement in the last ten minutes of the game both teams were only able to walk away with a point each.
After a half hour rain delay the game between the Lady Eagles and the Dayton Dutch Lions got under way. The first half was a mid-field battle with good chances from both sides.
The Lion's tested Alyssa Whitehead early without success. The Eagles answered quickly building to a shot just wide of Dayton's net.
In the 23rd minute, Botts was able to beat Novikoff at the top of the box with a quick turn; her shot found the back of the net, beating Alyssa Whitehead.
Though the Lady Eagles outshot their opponents 7-5, the Dayton Dutch Lions were able to go into halftime up 1-0.
The second half proved to be much more of the same. Both teams were very evenly matched.
In the 82nd minute Merrill took a free kick 20 yards out. A beautiful low shot made it just past the wall and the keeper finding the back of the net for the Eagles' equalizer.
The Eagles running off the momentum of the first goal continued to pressure in the box. Brooke McCady was able to come up with a great save leading to an Eagles' corner kick.
Fenix served the ball in the 86th minute. Novikoff beat her defender in the air, finding the net for the go ahead goal.
Botts answered in the 90th minute with a shot just getting past Whitehead.
The whistle blew just two minutes later creating a 2-2 draw.
