Charlotte Eagles News Release

The Lady Eagles (0-0-1) tied the Hampton Roads Piranhas (0-0-1) of the W-League with a score of 0-0. This was the first game of the season in the W-League of the USL.

The first half was very evenly matched. The Eagles had 7 shots on goal in the opening 45 while the Piranhas had 2. Emily Kittleson (M) and Allison Belsterling (M) had shots on goal for Hampton Roads. Shelley Lyle (D) played solid defense and Carrie Lorenz (M) had a quality shot on goal for the Eagles.

Jenna McKeon (M) had several brilliant passes to start the second half. Both Rachel Yepez (F) and Christy Rife (F) had great opportunities to score, but the Piranhas solid defense refused to let the Lady Eagles score. Yepez dribbled around the diving goalkeeper, Vicky Johnson, but Johnson grabbed the ball as Yepez shot. A few minutes later, Yepez went down with an injury and had to leave the game.

Both teams tried to squeeze in a last-second goal, but neither team let up. Rachel Yepez was named player of the match for her relentless attack and chances on goal. Yepez had 2 shots on goal before leaving with an injury. The Lady Eagles next match will be next Saturday at Hampton Roads. Their next home game will be Friday, June 11.
