ONE FOR THE RECORD BOOKS - The Long Island Lizards and the New Jersey Pride played in the highest-scoring game in the MLL this season. The Pride snapped the Lizards' five-game win streak with a 26-20 victory at Mitchel Athletic Complex. There were many notes from that game, including: - The 46 points between the two teams were the most in a Major League Lacrosse game since June 16, 2007 when Rochester defeated Denver by a 27-26 margin in overtime. - The 46 points tied for the third-highest total between teams in a single game in Major League Lacrosse history. - New Jersey set a team record by scoring 26 points in the victory over the Lizards, breaking the previous record of 23, which they set two times. - Long Island midfielder Peter Vlahakis set a Major League Lacrosse single-game record by winning 35 of 48 face-offs against the Pride. He broke the previous record of 30 face-off wins, which was set by Boston's Peter Inge during the 2004 season. - New Jersey attackman Merrick Thomson tied a team record by scoring seven goals in the win over Long Island. It was the fourth time in team history that a player has scored seven goals in a game. - New Jersey rookie attackman Matt Danowski set a team rookie record by recording nine points in the win over Long Island. He scored four goals, including a pair of two-point goals, and added three assists in the victory.
CHANGE OF ADDRESS - The Major League Lacrosse trade deadline came on Tuesday at 11:59 p.m. and featured just two trades among the League's 10 teams. - The Los Angeles Riptide traded Matt Casey to the Boston Cannons for a second round pick in the 2009 Collegiate Draft. - The New Jersey Pride traded Kevin Boland to the Washington Bayhawks in exchange for a fifth round pick in the 2009 Collegiate Draft.
IF YOU BUILD IT, THEY WILL COME - For the second straight year, the Denver Outlaws set a Major League Lacrosse single-game attendance record by playing on the 4th of July. After drawing nearly 20,000 fans to their win over Chicago last year, the Outlaws defeated the San Francisco Dragons by a 10-9 margin in front of 20,116 fans this year.
HOME SWEET HOME - Following their 10-9 victory over San Francisco on July 4, the Denver Outlaws have improved to a perfect 5-0 at INVESCO Field at Mile High this season. Since joining the league before the 2006 season, the Outlaws have recorded a 14-3 home record, including a 10-1 mark over the last two seasons.
SUPER SIX - In addition to recording their fifth home win of the season, the Denver Outlaws re-corded their MLL-leading sixth win of the season. Heading into their game against Los Angeles on Saturday, the Outlaws have a 1.5-game lead over the Riptide, who are 4-3 on the season.
ON THE HUNT, AGAIN - Los Angeles rookie attackman Kevin Huntley recorded his second straight five-goal effort in the Riptide's 18-16 victory over Chicago on Sunday afternoon. He also added an assist for a season-high six points and was named as the Bud Light MVP for the second straight game.
IT HAD TO END SOMETIME - With their 26-20 loss against New Jersey on Thursday night, the Long Island Lizards had their five-game win streak snapped. It was their first loss since an 18-12 setback against Philadelphia on May 25 at Texas Stadium. It was the Lizards' longest win streak since winning seven straight games during the 2002 season.
UN-CONNECT FOUR - Following a 10-9 setback against Denver on Friday night, the San Fran-cisco Dragons have lost four straight games and have a 1-6 record entering their showdown against Chicago on Saturday. The Dragons have not won since a 15-14 victory over the Ma-chine on June 7 at Spartan Stadium and are averaging 11.5 points per game during the losing streak.
INSTANT IMPACT - Chicago Machine rookie Steven Brooks has been a welcome addition to the team's offense since being drafted with the sixth overall pick in the MLL Collegiate Draft. With 23 points, he leads all MLL rookies and is tied for 19th place overall in the league. He has scored 15 goals, including a two-point marker, and has seven assists.
OH, SO CLOSE - After scoring two goals in the Bayhawks' one-point loss against Philadelphia two weeks ago, Washington attackman Andrew "Buggs" Combs is just one goal shy of reach-ing 100 for his MLL career. A 2001 graduate of the University of Maryland, Combs has scored 17 goals this season for the Bayhawks.
