LA Riptide Look to Clinch Western Conference Title

CARSON, CALIFORNIA - Friday, August 3, 2007 - The Los Angeles Riptide (8-2) of Major League Lacrosse (MLL) will look to continue their winning ways this weekend. The Riptide, the top-ranked team in the Western Conference, will have a chance to clinch the conference title with a win as they take on the Denver Outlaws (6-4) at INVESCO Field at Mile High on Saturday, August 4 at 12 p.m. (PT).

RIPTIDE VS. DENVER IN 2007: The Riptide have faced the Denver Outlaws twice in 2007 and have a record of 1-1 against their Western Conference rival. In the first match-up, attackman Terry Riordan had five goals and attackman Spencer Ford added two goals and six assists for the Riptide, but it wasn't enough as they were ultimately defeated by the Outlaws, 18-15, at INVESCO Field at Mile High in Denver on Saturday, June 9. In the second meeting between the two teams, goalie Mickey Jarboe finished with 25 saves to win the Bud Light MVP award, midfielder Graham Gill led all scorers with eight points (5 goals, 3 assists) and Ford led all players with seven assists as the Riptide tied a MLL record by allowing only five goals against and beat the Outlaws, 17-5, at The Home Depot Center on July 14.

RIPTIDE'S LAST GAME RECAP (JULY 28 VS. SAN FRANCISCO): Bud Light MVP/midfielder Sean Lindsay had six points - including a team-high five goals - and attackman Spencer Ford added one goal and five assists for the Riptide, who earned their team record sixth straight victory and a MLL playoff berth with their 20-11 win over the San Francisco Dragons at The Home Depot Center on July 28. The Riptide took complete control of the game in the third quarter as they scored four of the five goals in the stanza, and they added four more goals in the first 6:25 of the fourth quarter to take a 10-goal lead. Attackman Brad Reppert and midfielder Anthony Kelly scored their first goals of the season to give the Riptide a 17-8 lead, and midfielder Sean Lindsay and Woodson had goals late in the quarter to round out the scoring. Lindsay's goal was scored from two-point range giving him five goals in the game and 20 goals on the season. Goalie Mickey Jarboe posted his eighth victory of the season by allowing only six goals on 20 shots.

DENVER'S LAST GAME RECAP (JULY 28 AT LONG ISLAND): Midfielder Jeff Sonke scored the game-winning two-point goal with 3:31 left in overtime to lead the Denver Outlaws (6-4) to their second straight win, a 14-12 overtime victory over the Long Island Lizards (4-6) at Mitchel Athletic Complex on July 28. Saturday's game marked was the first time in league history that an overtime game was decided with a two-point goal. Brendan Mundorf was named the Bud Light MVP after scoring a game-high three goals while three other players scored two goals. Goalie Trevor Tierney made 13 saves in the victory.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: With their 20-11 win versus San Francisco on July 28, the Riptide clinched the team's first-ever playoff berth and with a win on Saturday, the Riptide will clinch the Western Conference title for the first time in team history...The Riptide established a franchise record six-game winning streak and a franchise record for wins in one season (8) with their victory over San Francisco on July 28...The Riptide have the lowest total of goals allowed among all MLL teams with 114...Riptide attackman/midfielder Spencer Ford set a new MLL record for assists in one season with his 41st assist of the year against San Francisco on July 28. Ford leads the league with 41 assists and his 51 total points (10-41=51) rank second overall in the circuit...Riptide attackman Chazz Woodson has scored three goals in each of his first three games since coming to the team from Boston on July 11...Riptide midfielder Sean Lindsay leads the league with five two-point goals and he is second in the league with 87 shots.
