CARSON, CALIFORNIA - Friday, July 27, 2007 - The Los Angeles Riptide (7-2) of Major League Lacrosse (MLL) will look to continue their winning ways this weekend. The Riptide, the top-ranked team in the Western Conference, will take on their in-state rival San Francisco Dragons (3-6) at The Home Depot Center on Saturday, July 28 at 7 p.m.
RIPTIDE VS. SAN FRANCISCO IN 2007: The Los Angeles Riptide have been victorious in both meetings with the San Francisco Dragons this season. Wes Green collected five goals, including the game-winner with 10 seconds remaining, and attackman Michael Watson also posted five goals for the Riptide as they fought to a thrilling 14-13 victory over San Francisco at Kezar Stadium on June 16. In the second game between the two teams, Terry Riordan collected a franchise-high seven goals, and Spencer Ford and Graham Gill finished with four assists each, as the Riptide defeated San Francisco, 16-12, at The Home Depot Center on June 30.
RIPTIDE'S LAST GAME RECAP (JULY 21 AT WASHINGTON): Bud Light MVP/midfielder Anthony Kelly won 19 of 28 face-offs and picked up eight groundballs and attackman Michael Watson scored five goals in a game for the third time this season as the Los Angeles Riptide defeated the Washington Bayhawks, 19-5, at Georgetown University on July 21. After a low-scoring first half, the score was locked up at 4-4 until the Riptide found a way to beat Bayhawks goalie Chris Garrity in the second half of the game. The team tallied seven goals in the third quarter to capture an 11-4 lead, while holding the Bayhawks scoreless in the frame. The Riptide continued the onslaught in the fourth quarter as they outscored the Bayhawks 8-1, thanks to scoring from five different players, to post a 19-5 victory.
SAN FRANCISCO'S LAST GAME RECAP (JULY 21 VS. CHICAGO): Goalie Matt Vallone made 19 saves, including 13 in the second half, as the San Francisco Dragons snapped a three-game losing streak with a 21-11 victory over the Chicago Machine in a Western Conference game at Kezar Stadium on July 21. The Dragons put the game out of reach when they scored seven of the first nine goals in the fourth quarter, increasing their lead to 21-9 with 1:01 remaining. Attackman Liam Banks led the Dragons to the victory with five goals and an assist.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR: With a win on Saturday, the Riptide will clinch a playoff berth for the first time in team history...The Riptide are unbeaten (4-0) at The Home Depot Center this season. Only one other team in the league (Philadelphia; 4-0) has gone unbeaten on their home turf so far in 2007...The Riptide have matched up against San Francisco five times in their short history, and they have won all five meetings (5-0) by an average of five goals per game...The Riptide established a franchise record five-game winning streak and a franchise record for wins in one season (7) with their victory against Washington on July 21...The Riptide matched a league record for fewest goals allowed (5) in each of their last two games (19-5 victory over Washington on July 21; 17-5 victory over Denver on July 14)... The 14-goal win over Washington last Saturday represented the Riptide's largest margin of victory in franchise history...The Riptide have the lowest total of goals allowed among all MLL teams with 104...Riptide attackman/midfielder Spencer Ford enters this week needing just five more assists to break the MLL's record for most assists in one season. Ford leads the league with 36 assists and his 45 total points (9-36=45) rank second overall in the circuit...Riptide attackman Chazz Woodson has scored three goals in each of his first two games since coming to the team from Boston on July 11.

Bring Your Dog to a Los Angeles Riptide Game: The Riptide, The Pet Staff and The Home Depot Center have teamed up for a one-of-a-kind event to benefit the Best Friends Animal Society when the Riptide square off against the San Francisco Dragons on Saturday night. Admission to the game will be $5 per dog and the owner will get into the event free with a donation to the Best Friends Animal Society.
