LA KISS Fall Short to the Soul, 56-33

LA KISS quarterback Nathan Stanley completed 18 of 41 pass attempts for 191 yards and 4 touchdowns. The "J. Lewis Small Playmaker of the Game" Donovan Morgan re-emerged as a deep threat, tallying seven receptions for 106 yards and three touchdowns. His 40-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter was the "Cutters Catch of the Game". Brandon Collins recorded six catches for 49 yards and Colin Madison added one 10-yard touchdown reception.

Philadelphia Soul quarterback and "Under Amour Player of the Game" Dan Raudabaugh threw for 250 yards and 6 touchdowns, while completing 18 of 26 passes. Darius Reynolds led the Soul's receivers with 10 receptions for 134 yards and three touchdowns. Shaun Kauleinamoku had six receptions for 97 yards and added three touchdowns.

Fredrick Obi led the LA KISS defense with six and a half tackles and a pass breakup. Jamil Merrell added four and a half tackles and a fumble recovery, which he returned 39 yards. For the Soul, the "Riddell Defensive Player of the Game" Tracy Belton recorded three tackles and had an 18-yard interception return for a touchdown. Joe Goosby recorded five tackles and two sacks.

After the LA KISS opening kickoff, the Soul scored on a 28-yard touchdown pass from Raudabaugh to Kauleinamoku. Tommy Frevert was successful on the point after and the Soul led by a score of 7-0 with 10:34 remaining in the quarter. The LA KISS countered when Stanley connected with Morgan for a 29-yard touchdown. The Goessling kick was good, making the score 7-7. On the ensuing Soul possession, Raudabaugh found Kauleinamoku for a 32-yard touchdown. The score was 14-7 after Frevert found the uprights. Stanley then connected with Madison for a 10-yard touchdown and Goessling made the point after, evening the score at 14 at the end of the first quarter.

On the first play of the second quarter, Reynolds caught a 32-yard touchdown pass from Raudabaugh. The Soul led 21-14 with 14:09 remaining in the quarter. On the next possession, Tracy Belton made the "AFL Highlight of the Game" when intercepted a Stanley pass and returned it 18-yards for a touchdown. The Soul lead 28-14 with 11:01 left in the half. After an LA KISS turnover on downs, Kauleinamoku caught a six-yard touchdown pass from Raudabaugh. The kick was good, extending the Soul lead to 21 with 2:02 left in the half. The LA KISS cut the lead to two scores when Stanley scored on a QB sneak with 17 seconds left in the half. The halftime score was 35-21.

The LA KISS opened up the second half with a turnover on downs. Then Reynolds scored on a 12-yard pass from Raudabaugh, which extended the Soul lead to 21 pointsOn the final play of the third quarter, Soul fullback Jeramie Richardson fumbled a handoff and Jamil Merrell returned it 36 yards. At the end of the quarter, the Soul led by a score of 42-21.

The fourth quarter opened with a seven-yard Stanley to Morgan touchdown. The point after was no good and the score was 42-27. Raudabaugh connected with Reynolds for a 13-yard touchdown, which extended Philadelphia's lead to three scores. Two plays later, Morgan caught a 40-yard touchdown pass from Stanley. Goessling missed his second straight point after and the score was 49-33. The final scoreboard had the Soul beating the LA KISS by a score of 56-33.

Next week, the LA KISS will host the Portland Steel at the Honda Center on Monday, May 8th. The 7:00 pm game will be available to be streamed live on ESPN3 and WatchESPN.
