San Jose, Calif. - Playing in their ninth road match of the 2023 MLS NEXT Pro campaign, LA Galaxy II earned a 2-2 draw in regulation, but fell 9-8 to Earthquakes II in a penalty-kick shootout at PayPal Park on Thursday night.
Penalty-Kick Shootouts
In their fourth penalty-kick shootout in MLS NEXT Pro during the 2023 campaign, LA Galaxy II fell 9-8 to Earthquakes II. LA Galaxy II have won two penalty-kick shootouts this season, while losing twice during the 2023 campaign.
LA Galaxy Academy
Seven players with ties to the LA Galaxy Academy started in the match against Earthquakes II: Marcus Ferkranus, Carson Klein, Allan Legaspi, Adrián González, Brandon Téllez, Juan Calderón and Alex Alcalá. Five LA Galaxy Academy products appeared off the bench in the match against Earthquakes II: Diego López, Justin Knighton, Nicolas Schelotto, Luis Medina and Emiliano Garcia. Notably, Knighton and Garcia both made their LA Galaxy II and MLS NEXT Pro debuts in the match against Earthquakes II.

SJ - Roberto Hategan (Cruz Medina), 37th minute: Cruz Medina floated in a ball in behind the Galaxy II defense to Roberto Hategan, whose half-volleyed shot from the left side of the six-yard box was fired in at the near post.
LA- Aaron Bibout, 23rd minute: LA Galaxy Academy defender Allan Legaspi delivered a low cross into the center of the box to Aaron Bibout, who flicked the ball past his marker and poked it into the bottom right corner of the goal.
LA- Axel Picazo (Juan Calderón, 50th minute: LA Galaxy Academy midfielder Juan Calderón floated a cross into the penalty area to Axel Picazo, who controlled the ball and fired it past the San Jose goalkeeper at the near post.
