Published on March 10, 2009 under Premier Basketball League (PBL) News Release
Chicago, IL...Wilmington Sea Dawgs guard Kris Clark was named PBL Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Clark, a 6-2 guard out of Utah State, received Player of the Week honors for the second time this season as he averaged 27.0 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 4.5 apg and 4.0 spg while shooting 61.2% from the field in two games this week.
"I'm thankful for receiving Player of the Week from the PBL," stated Clark. "I wouldn't have been able to achieve this award without the success of our team. I'm just trying to keep my team where I know we need to be in the standings in order to make a run for this championship."
Clark led the Sea Dawgs to a 2-0 week which included a 122-97 victory over the Buffalo Stampede where he scored a season-high 39 points, his second 35-plus point game of the season, to go along with five assists, four rebounds and four steals. Clark scored 15 points and registered five rebounds, four assists and four steals in Wilmington's 126-113 win over the Augusta Groove.
"Once again this a well deserved honor for Kris," said Wilmington Head Coach Dale Kuhl. "He has stepped up his game both defensively and offensively during this eight game winning streak. We look for him to continue his excellent play as we make our run towards the playoffs."
Owner Pete Gratale said, "The fact is that Kris is a 23 year old rookie who is just beginning to understand what he is capable of against older more experienced ball players. I believe his recent play is a result of him testing his limits and it is clear to me he is going to be a force in this league."
Clark is currently averaging 15.6 ppg (25th overall), 3.5 rebounds and 3.4 assists (12th overall). Clark was also named PBL Player of the Week on February 10.
"Kris has been a tremendous boost to our organization this season," said Sea Dawgs General Manger Billy Whittington. "His unselfish play continually puts his teammates in a position to be successful. He is establishing himself as one of the premier offensive guards in this league."
Other nominee's included Cedric McGinnis of the Wilmington Sea Dawgs, Rashi Johnson of the Battle Creek Knights, Stane's Bufford of the Detroit Panthers, Keith Friel of the Rochester RazorSharks and Donielle Davis of the Augusta Groove.
