Knoxville Nighthawks Lose Tough One to Lehigh Valley

The Nighthawks played their second game of the season Sunday afternoon, against the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks. It was their second of three consecutive road trips early in the 2013 season. Both teams were looking for their first win of the season. The Nighthawks ended the game a little bit short as they lost 63-45.
Lehigh Valley scored first on a two yard run by Steelhawks quarterback Adam Bernarik. But just like that, Nighthawk quarterback Josh McGregor threw a 40 yard touchdown to Willie Idellete to make the score 7-7. The first quarter ended with Lehigh Valley leading 21-7.
The second quarter started with a touchdown by Rich White of the Steelhawks. The Nighthawks came right back and scored on a 40 yard touchdown pass from Randy Hippeard to Kelvin Boldon. The Nighthawks also added a field goal to end the first half with the Steelhawks leading 28-17.
In the second half, the Nighthawks came out very strong offensively. Knoxville started the quarter off with a one point Uno by kicker Armando Cuko. The scoring went back and forth. At the end of the third quarter, the Nighthawks were only down 7 with the score being 45-38.
In the 4th quarter, the Nighthawks got within four points under the leadership of backup quarterback Randy Hippeard. The score, at that time, was 49-45 Lehigh Valley. But the Steelhawks pulled away late in the game for the final outcome.
"We made a great come back and played very well in the second half. A break here or there and the outcome might have been different. We will get back to work and get ready for Richmond," said Coach DeMatteo.
Knoxville will be on the road again next week for their 3rd road game in a row against the Richmond Raiders, Saturday, March 23rd at 7:00 p.m.
