Knighthawks' Shawn Williams Named Major Series Player Of The Week

(Rochester, NY)... The Major Series Lacrosse Player of the Week for the week ending May 24th is Brooklin Redmen forward Shawn Williams.

This past season in Rochester, Williams led the Knighthawks with 93 points and set a team record with 67 assists. The Knighthawks team captain is second in team history with 655 points, 263 goals and 392 assists. The 2010 season will be his 13th in the NLL and ninth with the Knighthawks.

This past weekend, Williams continued his move up in the All-Time Canadian Senior A/Major Lacrosse Record Book. In two games on the road versus St. Regis in the first week of the MSL season, Williams was in on 12 of Brooklin's 16 goals recording five goals and seven assists.

Saturday night, Williams led all scorers with a seven-point performance adding three goals and four assists while moving up in three different career statistical record books. Williams recorded his 570th career assist moving him into 16th in All-Time Career Regular Season Assists surpassing Ron MacNeil (569). He also surpassed Jim Wasson (1048) for 15th in All-Time Career Regular Season Points. In All-Time Career Regular Season, Playoff and Mann Cup Points combined, Williams moved into 13th surpassing former Brooklin standout Tom Wreggit (1389).

Sunday afternoon, Williams once again led all scorers adding two goals and three assists for five points. He moved into a tie for 28th in All-Time Career Regular Season Goals with Bram Wilfong (484) while surpassing Jim McMahon (483). Williams also became just the second player in Brooklin Redmen history to record 700 assists as he sits second all-time behind John Fusco (799).
