Knighthawks Host Boston Blazers Saturday On Pink In The Rink Night

(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Knighthawks will host the Boston Blazers on Saturday, March 28th at 7:35 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena. That evening is Breast Cancer Night as fans will have a chance to help raise money for cancer research by bidding on the special pink game-worn jerseys that the Knighthawks will be wearing that game. Fans that wear pink can get $10 tickets in 200 corner seating. Tickets can be purchased the day of the game only at The Blue Cross Arena Box Office. The game will be broadcast live on WYSL 1040-AM and wysl1040.com. Fans can watch the game live online via the NLL Network at NLL.com and on knighthawks.net.

Head-to-Head: The game is the first-ever meeting between the two teams and the first of two this season. The East Division rivals will meet again on Saturday, April 11th at 7:30 p.m. at TD Banknorth Garden in Boston.

Rochester Notes: Rochester (4-6) enters the game with a half-game lead over the Toronto Rock (4-7) and the Philadelphia Wings (4-7) for the fourth and final playoff spot in the East. Last Saturday, the Knighthawks dropped a 16-10 decision to the Toronto Rock at the Air Canada Centre. The loss halted Rochester's three-game winning streak and kept it winless on the road this season, falling to 0-4. Shawn Williams led the Knighthawks with seven points (1+6) and Jason Henhawk chipped in five points (3+2). Shawn Evans and Gary Gait each contributed one goal and three assists apiece. Pat O'Toole finished the night with 38 saves. Williams leads the Knighthawks with 63 points (20+43) and is sixth in the NLL in points. Defenseman Steve Toll is also fourth in the league with 113 loose balls.

Evans still on Fire: Knighthawks forward Shawn Evans has 36 points (15+21) in his last four games. On March 21st, he also notched his 100th professional goal in the loss at Toronto. Evans is second on the team with 52 points (21+31).

Walters finding his groove: Rochester rookie Joe Walters has three goals and two assists in his last two games to give him 13 points (6+7) in nine games.

Williams to join 800 Club: Rochester team captain Shawn Williams is just six points away from reaching the 800-point plateau. Williams has 344 goals and 450 assists in 12 seasons.

O'Toole on Di Tullio Show: Knighthawks goalie Pat O'Toole will be a guest on the John Di Tullio Show on SportsTalk 1280 WHTK and whtk.com at 10:45 a.m. on Friday, March 27th.

Boston Notes: The Blazers (7-4) are currently one game behind the Buffalo Bandits (8-3) for the top spot in the East Division. Boston is coming off a 9-8 overtime loss on March 14th to Toronto to end its five-game winning streak. The Blazers are currently tied for the most road wins in the league with four, having gone 4-1 away from TD Banknorth Garden. Forward Dan Dawson leads the league with 51 assists and is second with 74 points. He has 33 points (10+23) in his last four games. Goalie Anthony Cosmo is third in the NLL with a 10.12 goals-against average. Hobart product Daryl Veltman is second among league rookies in points with 52 (22+30). Three former Knighthawks play for the Blazers: forward Matt Lyons and defensemen Jack Reid and Carter Livingstone. Brett Queener, who led the Rochester Rattlers to a 2008 outdoor title, returns to Western New York. He grew up in nearby Penn Yan, NY, and played his college ball at the University at Albany.

Next Game: Rochester begins a four-game road trip next week that makes stops in Colorado, Calgary, Buffalo and Boston. The Knighthawks first back-to-back road trip starts on Friday, April 3rd with a 9:00 p.m. EST game against the Colorado Mammoth. On Saturday, April 4th, Rochester makes it first ever trip to Calgary to play the West Division leading Roughnecks at 9:00 p.m. EST. Next Home Game: Rochester ends the 2009 regular season with a 7:35 p.m. contest against the Philadelphia Wings on Saturday, April 18th at The Blue Cross Arena. That night the team will hold its Annual Awards Night, as the Knighthawks honor the most outstanding performances of the season. The first 5,000 will receive a Knighthawks team photo, courtesy of Connors & Ferris. The game will be broadcast live on WYSL 1040-AM and wysl1040.com. Officer Anthony DiPonzio Fundraiser Night: The Badge of Honor Association is hosting a fundraising event for Officer DiPonzio on April 18th. For every ticket sold, $5.00 will go to the DiPonzio family. Tickets must be purchased by Friday, April 17th and can be ordered through Nicole Petix at 454-5335, ext. 3021. DiPonzio, 23, of Greece, has begun his physical therapy and rehabilitation after begin shot in the head on January 31st while responding to a complaint on Dayton Street in the City of Rochester.
