Rochester Knighthawks News Release
(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Knighthawks will hold their annual "Breast Cancer Night" when they host the defending champion Calgary Roughnecks on Saturday, April 3rd. The Knighthawks will turn The Blue Cross Arena into a sea of pink with the wearing of pink helmets and jerseys, and the changing of their dasher boards from white to pink.
"It should be a festive atmosphere as we join the effort to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer," said Kighthawks President Lewis Staats. "We are honored to participate in our second annual event to fight a disease that has affected so many in the Rochester area and around the world."
The event is part of a league-wide effort to fight breast cancer. Each of the National Lacrosse League's 11 teams will host a special-themed "Breast Cancer Night" during a home game that takes place between March 26th and April 3rd.
"The National Lacrosse League is proud to join the fight against breast cancer," said NLL Commissioner George Daniel. "Our fans are very passionate about lacrosse, and we know they will rally behind this cause as well."
The Knighthawks host Calgary at 7:35 p.m. on April 3rd. During the game, fans can bid on the jerseys until the start of the third quarter. Those paying with cash can take their jerseys right off the players' backs after the game. To join the cause and attend the game, please call the Knighthawks Office at (585) 454-5335 or order your tickets online at knighthawks.net or ticketmaster.com.
The funds raised will go to the Knighthawks/Amerks Charitable Foundation, Inc., which will distribute the money to local cancer-related charities. The helmets will be auctioned off by the NLL through their website at a later date. The Knighthawks will also showcase their pink dashers, which will be the first of their kind in NLL history.
