Philadelphia KiXX News Release

West Springfield, Massachusetts, January 10, 2009 - The Philadelphia KiXX defeated the hosting Massachusetts Twisters, 28-6, to snap their four-game losing streak and earn the club's 250th victory in the team's 13-year history. Midfielder Ptah Myers led all scorers with eight points on three two-point goals and a pair of assists. Peter Pappas earned the victory in net for Philadelphia, while Adam Peron took the loss for the Twisters.

Philadelphia's Maher brothers connected to open the scoring and give the KiXX a 2-0 advantage at the 10:07 mark of the first quarter of action. Forward Anthony Maher finished the pass from his younger brother, Matthew who was making his KiXX debut. Medford, NJ native Ryan Heins added Philadelphia's second two-point tally of the stanza, his third goal of the season and in as many games, after finding the back of the net off a deflected shot from player/coach Don D'Ambra. Defender Kevin Radziwon put the hosting Twisters on the board with an unassisted tally at 13:16.

Jeff Deren pulled Massachusetts even, 4-4, connecting with a header off a rebound from teammate Neil Krause just 33 seconds into the second period. Philadelphia responded with four unanswered goals to take a 12-4 advantage into the half. Midfielder David Castellanos, Philadelphia native Pat Morris, forward Hewerton Moreira, and midfielder Ptah Myers each tallied a two-point score for the KiXX. With his score, Morris extended his point streak to a team-best seven games.

Less than one and one-half minutes into the third stanza, Myers registered a hat trick with his second and third two-point goals from D'Ambra and A. Maher at 16 seconds and 1:27 respectively. With rookie defender Kevin Coleman in the penalty box serving a two-minute boarding infraction, Deren put the Twisters back on the board, 16-6, with a two-point power-play goal at 5:01 of the period. Castellanos responded with his second notch of the contest, third of the season, on a feed from Myers at 6:29.

D'Ambra registered a power-play two-point score to give Philadelphia a 20-6 lead at 1:10 of the final quarter; the KiXX received the man-advantage courtesy of a two-minute elbowing infraction assessed on Radziwon. Heins and Morris followed, each with a three-point blast and their second scores of the contest, at the two-minute mark and 8:26, respectively. With his tally, Morris eclipsed the 400-point mark of his illustrious career and also assumes the top spot among all National Indoor Soccer League (NISL) scorers with 31 on the season. A. Maher concluded the game's scoring with an unassisted two-point goal at 13:35 of the final period.

Notes: Cape May Court House native Matthew Maher made his Philadelphia KiXX debut marking the first time that he and his brother, Anthony, competed on the same team professionally indoors; the 24-year-old defender finished his debut with a pair of assists. Philadelphia native Pat Morris registered a two-point goal and an assist to extend his point streak to a team-best seven games; the Northeast Catholic graduate also eclipsed the 400-point mark for his illustrious career after recording six points.
