KiXX Sign Four Newcomers for 2004-05 Season

Philadelphia, PA, October 12, 2004 â Philadelphia KiXX Executive Vice President/General Manager Greg Bibb announced today that the club has agreed to terms with four players for the 2004-05 Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) season. The team has inked deals with forwards John Barry Nusum and Gary Brooks and defenders Devlin Barnes and Ptah Myers, all of whom participated in the club's invitational combine that was held on September 11-12 at Tri-State Sports. As per League policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Nusum joins the KiXX after completing the 2004 outdoor season with the Toronto Lynx of the outdoor A-League. With the Lynx, the native of Devonshire, Bermuda notched eight points on four goals in 22 games played. The 23-year-old forward was selected by the Columbus Crew in the 2002 Major League Soccer (MLS) Draft, but played with the Atlanta Silverbacks (A-League) for both the 2002 and 2003 campaigns. He was the team's leading goal scorer with seven goals in 2003. The graduate of Furman University was a three-time All-American and currently holds the institution's mark in both goals (61) and points (161).
A native of Kingston, Jamaica, Brooks recorded four goals and six assists for 14 points with the Atlanta Silverbacks in 2004. Before joining the Silverbacks in 2002, the 24-year-old forward previously competed with the Virginia Beach Mariners. Brooks began his professional outdoor career with Waterhouse and Santos in Jamaica.
Barnes, from Bethesda, MD, appeared in three contests with the Atlanta Silverbacks, after competing in all 18 contests with the Albany Blackwatch Highlanders of the Premier Development League (PDL). A graduate of the University of Massachusetts, he was named an All-Conference defensive midfielder and honored as the Minutemen's Team and Defensive Most Valuable Player (MVP) in 2003.
A native of Columbus, OH, Myers accompanied Barnes on both the Albany Blackwatch Highlanders roster and along the Minutemen's backline at the University of Massachusetts. The 22-year-old defender appeared in 14 games for Albany in 2004 and registered 70 points (27 goals, 16 assists) in 74 games in four years at UMASS.
Philadelphia kicks-off the 2004-05 campaign versus the Cleveland Force on Saturday, October 23. The contest at the Convocation Center at CSU is slated for a 7:05 pm ET start time. The KiXX then battle the two-time defending MISL Champion Baltimore Blast at 1st Mariner Arena on Friday, November 5 before returning to the Wachovia Spectrum to entertain the Blast for the team's home opener on Saturday, November 6.
