Philadelphia KiXX News Release

After splitting the first two games of the best-of-three MISL Championship Series, the Philadelphia KiXX and Milwaukee Wave will take the field one last time this Friday, May 3 for the right to call themselves champion. The Wave won Game 1 last Friday night, 11-4, at the Bradley Center, while the KiXX won Game 2 by the same score at the First Union Center one night later to setup the deciding Game 3.

The KiXX are making their second straight trip to the league championship series, having also faced the Wave last year. Milwaukee won that best-of-five set in three straight to hoist its second consecutive trophy.

Philadelphia finished the regular season at 30-14 and in second place in the MISL standings, four games behind the Wave (34-10). A win on Friday would give the KiXX their first-ever championship trophy. The club has qualified for the playoffs in all six seasons it has been in the league, but this is the closest the team has ever come to winning it all.

Philadelphia boasts a very potent offense, starring the team's leading scorer Chris Handsor, who had 102 points in the regular season. Philadelphia native Don D'Ambra and fellow forward Kevin Sloan also provide the KiXX with scoring ability. The defense is led by Peter Pappas in goal. Pappas finished second in the MISL Goalkeeper of the Year balloting and was 23-10 with a 10.58 points-against average. Philadelphia's own Pat Morris and player/coach Omid Namazi are also leaders on defense. Morris, a Philadelphia University grad, was named to his first All-Star team this season, while Namazi is one year removed from Defender of the Year honors.
