Baltimore, MD - The Philadelphia KiXX (5-5) defeated the first-placed Baltimore Blast (7-2) 13-6 in front of 8,927 fans at the 1st Mariner Arena. With the victory, the KiXX pull the record even at 5-5 on the season and pull within one-half of a game of third place. Peter Pappas earned the victory in net for Philadelphia, stopping 8 of the 11 shots he faced, while Sagu took the loss for the Blast with nine saves on 14 chances.
After a scoreless first quarter, the visiting KiXX connected on four unanswered two-point goals in the second stanza to take a 8-0 advantage, before Baltimore's Guiliano Celenza finally notched a two-point power-play notch, courtesy of Lee Tschantret's two-minute penalty, with only 27 seconds remaining in the half. A mere 19 seconds into the second stanza, player/coach Don D'Ambra buried a ricocheted-pass off the boards from rookie midfielder Jeremy Ortiz into the top corner for the team's first tally, followed by a score from Cape May Court House, NJ native Anthony Maher on a pass from teammate Angel Rivillo at 1:26. With midfielder Ptah Myers serving a two-minute holding penalty, Philadelphia native Pat Morris registered Philadelphia's first two-point shorthanded goal of the season on a feed from teammate John Barry Nusum at 8:28. Maher followed with his second notch of the evening, assisted by Ricardinho, at 13:03.
Celenza and Garcia connected for the second time of the contest and the only score of the third period, to pull the Blast within four, 8-4, at 13:26.
Nusum extended Philadelphia's lead back to six, 10-4, on a nice pass off the boards from teammate Hewerton Moreira at 2:49 of the final frame. With the assist, Moreira extended his point streak to eight games. Forward Matt Watson found the back of the net to cut into the KiXX advantage, 10-6, at 8:03. Moreira sealed the team's victory, 13-6, with a three-point empty net goal at 14:27.
