KiXX Host Wave Saturday, March 29 In Final Regular Season Home Game
March 27, 2008 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2)
Philadelphia KiXX News Release
Philadelphia, PA - The defending MISL Champion Philadelphia KiXX will host the Milwaukee Wave on Saturday, March 29 for Fan Appreciation and Girl Scout Night. The final home game of the 2007-08 regular season at the Wachovia Spectrum is set for 7:05pm kick-off. The first-place Wave, winners of five straight games, have not loss since February 9 in Philadelphia. The KiXX are coming off a crucial win in New Jersey on March 20, 17-10, which kept the team's playoff hopes alive. With the win, the club pulled to within one-game of the sixth and final playoff spot. Temple alum Tony Donatelli paced the KiXX with eight points, including a three-point goal, a two-point goal, and three assists.
With three games remaining for each the KiXX and Ironmen, Philadelphia needs a combination of a KiXX win and an Ironmen loss to pull into a tie. If the two teams should end the regular season with identical records, the KiXX would be awarded the final playoff spot by virtue of the head-to-head tiebreaker. Philadelphia has defeated New Jersey all three-times they have played this season. Should the KiXX make the playoffs, the club is looking at a potential first-round matchup with rival Baltimore Blast, the current third-seed.
The KiXX are hosting the Wave for the second time this season, after two losses on the road followed by a win at the Wachovia Spectrum on February 9. Back on December 7, the KiXX dropped a 14-8 decision in a Fox Soccer Channel match that saw all 11 goals scored by a different player. On January 4, the KiXX fell 12-10 despite two goals from captain Pat Morris in another Fox Soccer Channel match. Philadelphia couldn't overcome two two-goal performances from Milwaukee stars Troy Dusosky and Greg Howes. In Philadelphia on February 9, Ptah Myers gave the KiXX the go-ahead goal with 6:19 remaining in the fourth quarter, finishing the night with two goals and an assist for five points.
Howes, the 2004-05 MISL MVP, leads the entire League in assists (29) and points (107), and ranks second in goals with 36. Second-year standout Marcio Leite follows Howes with 25 goals of his own, to go along with 15 assists for 69 points. Leite, along with Tony Donatelli, were named to the 2006-07 MISL All-Rookie Team. Milwaukee's defense boasts six players with more than 20 blocks on the season. Nick Vorberg ranks second in the MISL in wins in net with 14, and third in both minutes (1255) and PAA (9.27). Keith Tozer has the most wins in American indoor soccer coaching history with 592 victories.
