Philadelphia, PA - The Philadelphia KiXX were defeated by the top-seeded Baltimore Blast, 18-6, in front of 6,759 fans at the Wachovia Spectrum. With the turnout, Philadelphia has now entertained over 1.5 million fans in the team's 13-year history. Peter Pappas took the loss between the posts for the KiXX, stopping four of the 10 shots he faced, while Sagu earned the victory for Baltimore with 11 saves on 14 chances.
Forward Hewerton Moreira opened the scoring with a two-point goal at 4:10 into the first stanza, 2-0. Baltimore matched the goal, 2-2, at 5:30 as midfielder Machel Millwood slid the ball past Pappas with an assist from teammate Guiliano Celenza. Baltimore took their first lead of the evening, 4-2, after defender Billy Nelson headed the ball into the net off the rebound from Millwood. The Blast continued their scoring with a two-point tally, Matt Tirschman to forward Denison Cabral at 11:29.
Midfielder Scott Buete received a two-minute tripping infraction to provide the KiXX with the power-play opportunity. Player/Coach Don D'Ambra took advantage and notched a power-play score at 4:54, the only goal of the second frame, on a dish from Philadelphia native Pat Morris.
Midway through the third quarter Craig Scheer received Baltimore's third tripping call of the contest. The KiXX took advantage and knotted the game, 6-6, at 9:39 with quick passing from Moreira to newcomer Anthony Maher. This tally gave Moreira his 50th career assist and Maher his 100th career goal. After D'Ambra was called for tripping at 12:40, Denison Cabral of the Blast capitalized on the power play, his second two-point goal of the game, making the score 8-6. Less than a minute later at 14:19, Guiliano Celenza found the back of the net, assisted from forward Carlos Garcia to extend Baltimore's lead to four, 10-6.
Baltimore started the fourth stanza scoring at 10:23 with a two-point goal from Celenza, 12-6, his second of the game, assist by Lookingland. After Ricardinho entered as the sixth attacker, Baltimore posted a pair of three-point empty net tallies from Ryan Pierce and Billy Nelson to seal the 18-6 victory.
