Philadelphia, PA - The Philadelphia KiXX dropped a 14-12 decision to the Monterrey La RaZa in front of 6,134 fans at the Wachovia Spectrum. With the loss, Philadelphia remains one win shy of 250 for its 12-year history. Steve Resse earned the victory in net for Monterrey, stopping 12 of the 17 shots he faced, while Peter Pappas took the loss with nine saves on 15 shots.
KiXX forward Hewerton Moreira connected on the only score of the opening quarter, a three-point tally, 3-0, from Philadelphia native Pat Morris at 10:49 of the frame.
To open the second period of play, Monterrey forward Mariano Bollella scored a two-point tally on an assist from midfielder Joel Busti at 2:38. In a mere twelve seconds, KiXX veteran Ptah Myers responded with a two point goal, (5-2) assist from Moreira. At 4:56 of the frame, Bryon Alvarez posted the second two-point goal for Monterrey (5-4). After the Philadelphia's Anthony Maher was penalized for pushing, Monterrey took their first lead of the contest at 9:14 with a two-point goal from defender Jose Luiz Birche (5-6) assisted by fellow defender Genoni Martinez.
Philadelphia started off the third quarter with a tripping penalty called on defender Joe Di Buono at 3:16. Monterrey's Mark Ughy capitalized less than a minute later for a two-point tally (8-5), assisted by Alvarez. To tie the game (8-8), forward John Barry Nusum knotted his first goal of the game, a 3-point tally on a long pass from Pappas at 6:47 of the frame.
Moreira and Morris connected for the second time of the contest, this time on a two-point tally at 4:23 of the final stanza. Monterrey's Ivan Medina quickly responded to knot the score even, 10-10, with an unassisted two-point goal at 6:06. La RaZa took the lead with a goal from Busti, (10-12) assisted by Bollella. With just over two minutes of play Philadelphia's Ricardinho entered as the 6th attacker. Monterrey's midfielder Victor Quiroz extended the lead on a two-point score (14-10), assist from Armando Teran, with only thirty five seconds of play left in the game. Seconds later Monterrey was penalized for a holding call, and Philadelphia was awarded a penalty kick. Moreira completed his third consecutive hat trick with a two-point score on the penalty kick, but it proved too little as Philadelphia fell short 14-12.
