Monterrey La RaZa

2008-09 Series: 0-1 (home 0-1, away 0-0)

Overall: 1-4 (home 0-3, away 1-1)

Monterrey earned a 14-12 victory in the team's first meeting of the season in Philadelphia on December 13. KiXX forward Hewerton Moreira led all scorers with six points, while Monterrey featured a more balanced attack with three scorers each posting three points. Rookie goalkeeper Steve Resse earned the victory in net with 12 saves on 17 chances. Coach Erich Geyer's squad closely resembles last season's unit, most notably the return of Defender of the Year Genoni Martinez, that was defeated by the Baltimore Blast in the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Championship game. Some new additions for 2008-09 include standout target Mark Ughy and midfielder Mariano Bollella, both of whom competed with the Chicago Storm last season.

Last Week's Outing - BAL 16, PHL 10 (12/20/08):

Baltimore jumped to a 6-0 advantage after one quarter of action and never looked back as the undefeated squad downed the visiting Philadelphia KiXX, 16-10. Forward Machel Millwood led the Blast with seven points on three 2pgs and an assist and five others notched a two-point score. Philadelphia native Pat Morris registered a hat trick for the KiXX, including a three-point goal, to finish with seven points. With the loss, Philadelphia remains one-win shy of 250 for its 13-year history and is now 0-2 since recording their 249th victory. Forward John Barry Nusum appearance marked the 100th game of his career and Hewerton Moreira connected on a goal for the fourth consecutive contest.

Closing in on Number 250:

With losses to Monterrey on December 13 and in Baltimore on December 20, Philadelphia remains one win shy of reaching the 250-victory mark in franchise history and is now 0-2 since capturing win number 249. The team's next opportunity is a doubleheader weekend in Monterrey on December 26 and December 28. The 12-year-old franchise eclipsed 100 wins in the 2000-01 season, the 200-victory mark in 2004-05 and earned League Championships in 2002 and 2007.

Well-Represented:

The KiXX are well represented on the NISL Leaderboard, holding three of the top five scorers . Newcomer Hewerton Moreira continues his hold on the top spot with 25 points while Anthony Maher and Philadelphia native Pat Morris are tied for second with 18. Moreira registered a three-point score in Baltimore on December 20 and has recorded at least one goal and three points in each of the team's first four contests; he previously posted at least two goals and six points in each of the team's first three outings. Maher, a native of Cape May, NJ, has slowed a bit recording only an assist in the last contests, but scorched out of the gates for 17 points in the first three games. Morris has come on strong lately, posting a game and personal season-high seven points on a 3pg and a pair of 2pgs in Baltimore on December 20. Ricardinho, a teammate of Moreira with the Detroit Ignition each of the previous two seasons, ranks seventh on the NISL Leaderboard with 13 points. .

KiXX Ironman:

KiXX midfielder Ptah Myers is well on his way to becoming Philadelphia's Ironman. The Columbus, OH native has appeared in 102 consecutive contests (96 regular-season and six playoffs) including every game in each of the last three seasons. Myers last missed an outing when he did not participate in the team's contest versus the Milwaukee Wave on February 9, 2005. Philadelphia native Pat Morris held the team's previous longest games-played streak at 97.
