Philadelphia, PA, January 25, 2009 - The Philadelphia KiXX (4-5) defeated the Monterrey La RaZa (6-5) 16-8 in front of 6,108 fans at the Wachovia Spectrum. Forward Hewerton Moreira registered a season-high 10 points on a team-best five two-point goals. Peter Pappas earned the victory in net for the KiXX, stopping 13 of the 16 shots he faced, while Jose Bontti took the loss for Monterrey with four saves on 10 chances.

Just over one minute in the opening quarter of play (1:13), forward Moreira connected on a two-point restart goal from teammate Angel Rivillo to give Philadelphia an early 2-0 advantage. To extend the lead, 4-0, Ortiz scored a two-point goal off the deflected save on a shot from player/coach Don D'Ambra at 8:07. With only 30 seconds left in the period, Moreira and Rivillo find each other again for their second two-point connection, 6-0.

Monterrey's Joel Busti had the only score of the second stanza on a two-point goal from teammate Mariano Bollella at 5:46.

After a three-point score by midfielder Ivan Medina, assisted by Jose Bontti at 2:45 of the third period, the La RaZa pulled within one, 6-5. Monterrey capitalized on two-minute tripping infraction assessed on Ricardinho with a three-point power-play score from Jose Luiz Birche to take their first lead of the evening, 8-6, at 11:24. With Bontti serving a two-minute handball penalty, Ricardinho slid the ball to Moreira deposited his third two-point tally of the contest past netminder Steve Resse to knot the clubs even at 8-8.

Philadelphia regained the lead early in the fourth (2:22) off a restart goal by D'Ambra, assisted by Ricardinho, 10-8. Moreira found the open net on another restart goal, his fourth notch of the contest, to extend the KiXX lead to four, 12-8, at 3:29. Ricardinho and Moreira sealed the KiXX 16-8 victory with a pair of two-point scores from midfielder Ptah Myers and Pappas at 9:44 and 12:52, respectively.

Notes: Defender Clay Roberts appeared in the 50th game of his career. Forward Hewerton Moreira recorded a season-best in points (10) and goals (five). Midfielder Ricardinho tied a season-best with three assists in the contest.
