Philadelphia KiXX News Release
Philadelphia, PA - The defending MISL Champion Philadelphia KiXX (1-4) won their first game of the 2007-08 season with a 15-13 decision over the expansion Monterrey La Raza (1-4). After losing the first four games of the season, the worst start in club history, the KiXX supplied their highest offensive output thus far with 15 points in front of 3,892 fans at the Wachovia Spectrum. Second-year standout Tony Donatelli recorded a hat trick for Philadelphia.
The hosting KiXX opened the scoring, 2-0, as the Temple University product Donatelli deposited a centering pass from teammate Aaron Susi at 10:33 of the first quarter of action. Midfielder Ptah Myers extended Philadelphia's advantage, 4-0, with a two-point score on a dish from player/coach Don D'Ambra at 14:18. With just over three seconds remaining in the frame, Myers found the back of the net again (6-0) this time a three-point goal on a pass from KiXX goalkeeper Peter Pappas.
Donatelli and Susi connected again to lengthen the defending champs' advantage, 9-0, with a power-play score at 4:03 of the second period. Philadelphia received the man advantage courtesy of a two-minute striking penalty assessed to Victor Santibanez. The goal also pushed Donatelli over 50 career points for his two-year indoor career. La Raza broke the shutout with a three-point strike from defender Gandhi Vega at 9:10 of the quarter. With midfielder Angel Rivillo in the penalty box serving a two-minute tripping infraction, former KiXX teammates Dino Delevski and Genoni Martinez connected for a three-point power-play goal to cut Philadelphia's advantage to three, 9-6, at 11:08.
Less than a minute into the third stanza, Donatelli completed his hat trick with a two-point score, 11-6, off an assist from Philadelphia native Pat Morris. Monterrey responded with two unanswered goals to pull even, 11-11, entering the final period of action. Vega struck first with an unassisted two-point tally (3:34), followed by a three-point score from Pedro Jimenez (6:28).
La Raza took their first lead of the evening, 13-11, courtesy of a two-point goal from Marco Vega at 5:36 of the fourth frame. Angel Rivillo recorded his team-leading fifth goal to pull Philadelphia back even, 13-13, at 8:43. Forward Aaron Susi followed close behind, just under the 10-minute mark (9:49), to regain the KiXX advantage, 15-13; defender Drew Kopp posted the assist on the play. Philadelphia held the two-point advantage for their first win of the season and snapped a four-game losing skid.
