February 3, 2016 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Coulee Region Chill News Release
Today the North American Hockey League announced that goalie Matiss Kivlenieks was named the runner-up for Goalie of the Month in January, and forward Dominik Florian was named an honorable mention among forwards across the league.
Kivlenieks came into the month of January fresh off of a gold medal and Best Goaltender of the Tournament honors as he backstopped his home country of Latvia to the Championship title of the IIHF World Junior Div. I Group A Championship, held in Vienna, Austria.
The 6'2" Riga native wasn't done then as his great work in net came back to the states with him. Through the month of January, Kivlenieks posted a 3-1 (one no-decision) all while posting two shutouts and saving 118 pucks for a .941 save percentage. His goals-against-average over the span of the month was 1.65.
Kivlenieks is now 7-8 on the season with two shutouts, a 2.61 GAA and .918 save percentage.
The accolades didn't stop there for the Chill players. Playing in his second season with the Coulee Region Chill, Florian completed his best month to date. Throughout January he broke three of his personal records and tied another.
Florian finished with six goals and seven assists for 13 points and a +6. The latter-three stats were all a career best for a single month of work. Florian previously scored six goals in one month back in November of 2014. In the game this past Friday (1/29/2016) against the Springfield Jr. Blues he recorded three assists in one game for the first time in career.
Kivlenieks, Florian and the rest of the Chill are back in action Friday and Saturday night! Friday they'll be traveling to take on the Minnesota Magicians and head South Saturday to face the Austin Bruins.
