Kissaw Honored Again

Marquette - For the second consecutive week, Marquette Rangers goaltender Kevin Kissaw has been named the GDI Goalie of The Week in the North American Hockey League. Kissaw, who backstopped the Rangers to a two-game sweep over Motor City, turned aside 62 of 65 shots on the weekend as the Rangers tallied four points; taking over first place in the NAHL North Division.

Marquette (7 - 1, 14 pts.) is off to its best start in four years as an organization, and leads the North Division by two points over second-place Traverse City.

On Friday, the Goodrich, Mich. native made 29 saves in regulation and overtime and turned aside three of five Motor City attempts in the shootout in a 4-3 victory. The next night, the 19-year-old stopped all 33 shots as the Rangers blanked the Metal Jackets, 2-0.

"Kevin was the best player on the ice for us last weekend," said Rangers head coach Kenny Miller.  "He gives a chance to win every time he's in the net, and he came up with timely saves all night long on Saturday."

The Rangers return home this weekend taking on the Alpena IceDiggers Friday and Saturday evening at Lakeview Arena. The puck drops at 7:30 each night.

Three Former Rangers of To Solid Starts Gallagher, Pietila cousins all score first collegiate goals

Marquette - It was a good weekend for Marquette Rangers Alumni at the Division I college level, as three players from last years' squad all scored their first collegiate goals.

Marquette native and University of Connecticut forward Jim Gallagher scored in the Huskies exhibition win over the Royal Military College of Kingston, Ontario 7-2. Six different Husky players scored in the win, UConn will battle CCHA member Ferris State this weekend.

Closer to home, former Rangers forward Chad Pietila (Milford, Mich.) scored his first collegiate marker in Northern Michigan University's 11 - 2 exhibition win over Ryerson University of Toronto. Pietila's goal at the 18:06 mark of the second period on Saturday was the eventual game-winner for Walt Kyle's Wildcats.

Meanwhile, at the MacInnes Student Ice Arena in Houghton, Pietila's cousin and former Ranger Aaron Pietila (Brighton, Mich.) scored his first collegiate goal in Michigan Tech's 3 - 1 win over Ryerson Friday.

In all, five Rangers from last years' squad moved on to D-I hockey. Additionally, Reed Rushing (Bowling Green - CCHA) and Kevin Gravel (Saint Cloud State - WCHA) are playing Division I hockey this season.
