Florida Fire Frogs News Release
KISSIMMEE, FL: Florida Fire Frogs RHP Nolan Kingham ended the month the way he started the month, by tossing a complete game shutout at Osceola County Stadium in a 7-0 win versus the Palm Beach Cardinals as part of Friday night's set opener.
Kingham (3-3) yielded just two hits to the Cardinals, besting the three he allowed on May 1 while blanking Lakeland over nine innings. The former Texas Longhorn walked one, struck out four, and set down the last 16 batters he faced while tossing 103 pitches.
This was the third nine-inning complete game shutout in Fire Frogs history, all of them being thrown this month. Kingham has two of them. RHP Jasseel De La Cruz's no-hitter on May 18 was the other.
The offense backed up Kingham nicely, scoring seven runs in a game for the first time since May 18 and banging out 11 hits. Jefrey Ramos got the Frogs on the board right away in the first by grounding into a fielder's choice that enabled Shean Michel to cross home. A single by Greyson Jenista and a missed catch error to Julio Rodriguez enabled Riley Delgado to come home for a 2-0 Florida lead.
William Contreras brought out the lumber in the third, smacking his third home run of the season off the scoreboard in right-center to plate him and Ramos for a 4-0 edge.
Ramos scored three runs and reached twice. His hit in the third extended his hitting streak to eight.
Kevin Josephina stayed hot by going 2-4 and recording his seventh multi-hit game of the month. His RBI knock in the fifth brought in Ramos again for a 5-0 Coquis lead.
Michel worked his way onto the base paths on three separate occasions. His single in the sixth and another error from Rodriguez permitted Rusber Estrada to score to push it to 6-0.
Estrada got on base all four times on Friday, notching singles in his first two plate appearances. He capped the scoring by touching up on a sacrifice fly hit by Delgado in the eighth.
Delgado became the first player in the Florida State League to cross the 60-hit plateau in 2019 with his two-hit night. He has 17 multi-hit efforts already this season.
RHP Edgar Gonzalez (4-7) got knocked around in six innings of work, giving up 11 hits, six runs (five earned), and a walk. RHP C.J. Saylor yielded a run and three walks over two hitless frames.
NEXT UP: The Fire Frogs gun for a series victory at the Pond on Saturday night behind RHP Matt Withrow (1-1, 2.30). First pitch will be thrown at 6 p.m.
