Killer Bees Release Schedule

HIDALGO, Texas - With their first game just seven days away the RGV Killer Bees released the 2013-14 regular schedule Friday for their inaugural season in the North American Hockey League (NAHL), which is sure to be action-packed from start to finish.

The Killer Bees' first season in the NAHL officially gets under way next Friday and Saturday (Sept. 13-14) against South Division foe Lone Star Brahmas. Both games are scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.

The Killer Bees will then take part in the NAHL Showcase Tournament in Blaine, Minn., from Sept. 18-21. During the tournament, the Killer Bees will take on one team each day. On the first day of competition, Rio Grande Valley will face the Coulee Region Chill and the Aberdeen Wings on the second day of the tournament. The Killer Bees will take on the perennial power Fairbanks Ice Dogs on Friday, Sept. 20 before concluding the tournament on Saturday, Sept. 21 against the Soo Eagles.

After the Showcase Tournament, the RGV Killer Bees will host their first weekend series at State Farm Arena "Bee Hive" against South Division opponent Wichita Falls on Friday, Sept. 28 (7:05 p.m.) and Saturday, Sept. 29 (4:05 p.m.). On home opening night the RGV Killer Bees will pay tribute to the past stars of previous Killer Bees players which include Kurtis Dulle, Ryan Shmyr, and Billy Newson.

The RGV Killer Bees will play five home games in October, beginning with a 2-game series against Lone Star on Friday, Oct. 11 and Saturday Oct. 12.

Both games are slated to begin at 7:05 p.m. Rio Grande Valley will also host Lone Star on Saturday, Oct. 19 (7:05 p.m.) before hosting a 2-game series against the Amarillo Bulls on Friday, Oct. 25 (7:05 p.m.) and Saturday, Oct. 26.

The Bees will host a pair of two-game series at State Farm Arena in November. The Odessa Jackalopes, another South Division opponent, will come to town on Friday, Nov. 8 (7:05 p.m.) and Saturday, Nov. 9 before Amarillo returns to the State Farm Arena on Friday, Nov. 15 and Saturday, Nov. 16. Both games against Amarillo are slated to begin at 7:05 p.m.

If you like Black Friday, you'll love Hockey Saturday when the Killer Bees host Lone Star on Saturday, Nov. 30.

Fans should mark their calendars for five home games at State Farm Arena around the holidays. Rio Grande Valley will welcome South Division opponent Wichita Falls on Friday, Dec. 6 and Saturday, Dec. 7 with both games set to begin at 7:05 p.m.

On December 28, Corpus Christi will come to town before Rio Grande Valley hosts Lone Star in the New Year on Friday, Jan. 3 and Saturday, Jan. 4. All three games are scheduled to begin at 7:05 p.m.

In late January and the first half of February, the Killer Bees will enjoy a stretch of seven straight home contests, beginning with a 7:05 p.m. tilt against Corpus Christi on Friday, Jan. 24. The Killer Bees will then host a pair of 2-game series. The first 2-game set is against the Topeka RoadRunners on Friday, Jan. 31 and Saturday, Feb. 1, with both games beginning at 7:05 p.m. The second 2-game series during the 7-game home stretch is a mid-week affair on Tuesday, Feb. 4 and Wednesday, Feb. 5 against Odessa. Both games of the Odessa series are slated for 6:35 p.m. starts.

Nothing could be sweeter than spending Valentine's Day with your sweetheart at the State Farm Arena "Bee Hive" on Friday, Feb. 14 and Saturday, Feb. 15 when the Killer Bees close out their 7-game home stand against the Corpus Christi Ice Rays. Both games will begin at 7:05 p.m.

The Killers Bees have just two more home series after Valentine's Day weekend. The first of those two series will take place on Monday, March 3 (6:35 p.m.) and Tuesday, March 4 against the Odessa Jackalopes.

The Killer Bees will close out the home portion of their 2013-14 schedule against Corpus Christi on Saturday, March 22 (7:05 p.m.) and Sunday, March 23 (4:05 p.m.).

In all, the Killer Bees will play 60 regular season games, 28 at home, 28 on the road and four on neutral ice at the Showcase Tournament.
