Killer Bees Add Rogers to Goalie Duo

HIDALGO, TEXAS --- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees of the Central Hockey League (CHL) today announced that the team has signed goalie Wylie Rogers for the 2009-10 season.

The second-year pro appeared in 34 games for RGV last season and posted a record of 18-10-3 along with a 3.12 goals against average and .908 save percentage. His 18 wins finished tied for eighth in the CHL while his .908 save percentage was tied for ninth.

Rogers, 24, went 10-2-2 in his last 14 regular season decisions and posted a 2.40 GAA and a .924 save percentage during that span. He then led RGV to its first ever playoff series win in the opening round of the President's Cup Playoffs vs. Corpus Christi. His 30-save shutout in the deciding Game 3 of that series was also the first shutout in Killer Bees postseason history.

"I'm thrilled to be back in Rio with the fans, coaching staff, and teammates from last year," Rogers explained. "I'm excited to see the team Coach Brooks and Coach Gillam are putting together compete and I'm happy to be a part of it."

Prior to signing with the Killer Bees, the Fairbanks, Alaska, native spent four seasons at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks. As a rookie in 2004-05, he earned the team's Most Valuable Player and Rookie of the Year Awards, as well as being named to the CCHA (Central Collegiate Hockey Association) All-Rookie Team after going 15-12-4 with a 2.88 GAA and .906 save percentage. He set the school record for highest save percentage in a season (.918) during his sophomore campaign and was a three-time CCHA Goalie of the Week over the course of his junior and senior seasons. The 5-foot-10, 192-pound turned pro with the ECHL's Utah Grizzlies after completing his college eligibility.

"We're excited to have Wylie back and look forward to seeing him build on last year's success," Killer Bees Head Coach Chris Brooks said. "I feel confident he and Andy Franck will not only make us better, but also push each other to be better."
