Kickers Conclude Regular Season in LA

Richmond, VA - (Thursday, August 11, 2011) - The Richmond Kickers conclude the 2011 USL PRO regular season this weekend with a pair of matches against the Los Angeles Blues. First, the Kickers face the Blues on Friday, August 12 at Cal State Fullerton at 10:30 p.m. ET on USLLive.com before meeting the west coast team in the USL PRO regular season finale on Sunday, August 14 at Norco College at 8:00 p.m. ET.

The Kickers and the Blues meet for the second and third time this weekend after a recent face-off at Richmond City Stadium on July 22. The home team suffered a disappointing result when the visiting Blues claimed the lead in the 5th minute and held it throughout the match to earn a 2-1 win over the Kickers. With a heat index soaring over 110 degrees, midfielder Cesar Rivera and Jonatan De Leon combined to tally a pair of first half goals before Kickers defender Sascha Görres converted a 69th minute penalty to avoid the shutout.

The Kickers punched their ticket to the postseason in the tightly contested American Division with a 3-0 win over the Dayton Dutch Lions last Saturday and gained three points on Wilmington with a 2-0 victory over the second-place Hammerheads Wednesday night. Kickers midfielder Ryan Heins notched the eventual game-winner in the 18th minute before forward Matthew Delicâte added an insurance goal 16 minutes from regulation. Goalkeeper Ronnie Pascale posted his second shutout in four days as the Kickers defensive unit blanked the Hammerheads at Legion Stadium. With a 12-7-3 record and 39 points, the Kickers reside in third place in the division standings, just three points behind Wilmington (13-7-3, 42 points) with a game in hand heading into the last weekend of regular season action.

Meanwhile, the LA Blues look to bolster their postseason positioning after dropping a 3-0 decision in Antigua last weekend. With an 8-7-7 record and 31 points, the Blues hold the third place spot on the National Division table and are six points behind the division co-leaders Rochester Rhinos and Harrisburg City Islanders with 37 points apiece.

USL PRO Playoffs

The 2011 USL PRO playoffs will see eight teams advance following the conclusion of the regular season. The top four teams each from the American Division and National Division will advance to four single-game Division Semifinals taking place Friday-Sunday, August 19-21. The single-game Division Finals will be played a week later, with the 2011 USL PRO Championship, hosted by the highest remaining seed, to be played Saturday, September 3. One Division Semifinal, a Division Final and the USL PRO championship game will be televised nationally on FOX Soccer.
