
Kernels Release 2019 Opening Night Roster

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels, in conjunction with the Minnesota Twins, are pleased to release the 2019 Opening Night Roster! The 25-player roster features five of the Twins Top 30 Prospects, according to Baseball America, in RHP Blayne Enlow (#8), INF Yunior Severino (#10), RHP Jordan Balazovic (#20) and OF Gilberto Celestino (#30).
The Kernels' pitching staff features five that spent either all or parts of the 2018 season with the Kernels (Jordan Balazovic, Blayne Enlow, Jose Martinez, Zach Neff and Carlos Suniaga). Newcomers Luis Rijo was 5-1 with a 2.05 ERA in 10 games at Elizabethton while Andrew Cabezas (2.74 ERA in 11 appearances) and Austin Schulfer (1.58 ERA in 11 outings) strengthened the E-Town staff that won the Appalachian League championship.
Seven position players return to the Kernels for the 2018 season including catchers David Banuelos and Ben Rodriguez; infielders Andrew Bechtold and Michael Davis; and outfielders Jean Carols Arias, Trey Cabbage and Jacob Pearson. Chris Williams led the Appalachian League with 15 HR and DaShawn Keirsey hit .301 (31-103) as E-Town hit a collective .280 as a team.

Your first chance to meet the 2019 Kernels is on Tuesday, April 2nd as part of 'Meet the Kernels Night' at the stadium. The event is FREE to fans with the gates opening at 5:00 PM. The Kernels open the 2019 MWL season at home on Thursday, April 4th vs. Peoria at 6:35 PM with the gates opening at 5:30 PM.
