Kernels And Chiefs Suspended

Peoria, IL - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Peoria Chiefs were suspended with the score tied, 2-2, on Opening Night at O'Brien Field in Peoria on Thursday. The game will be resumed Friday at 5:00 pm, followed by Friday scheduled game, played to nine innings.

The game was delayed 56 minutes by rain after the completion of the 8th inning.

Kernels starter Max Russell allowed a run on six hits, walked two and struck out six over 6 IP, but won't figure into the final decision. Brandon Decker and Jean Almanzar both have hit solo home runs for the Kernels.

Morgan Hawk brings you all the action from O'Brien Field in Peoria on Friday night starting at 5:00 pm on the radio home of Kernels baseball, 1450 KMRY AM. Fans may also listen on-line at www.kernels.com , or www.kmryradio.com .

The Kernels continue a four game road trip through Sunday in Peoria and open the 2011 season at Perfect Game Field on Monday, April 11 at 6:35 pm against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. The first 1,000 fans through the gates get a free 10th Anniversary Veterans Memorial Stadium t-shirt, thanks to the Best Western Longbranch. 2011 magnet schedules, courtesy Mercy Care Community Physicians, will be passed out to all fans during Opening Week, April 11-14.
