Kentucky Reach standout McCurry to play abroad

Former Bellarmine University standout Jared McCurry has signed a contract to play basketball in Switzerland with Herens of the LBA, which is considered the upper division in Switzerland. McCurry, a 6-foot-3 shooting guard, just capped off an excellent season with the Kentucky Reach, an Elizabethtown, Kentucky based World Basketball Association (WBA) franchise. McCurry averaged 20 points, six rebounds and five assists per game during the 2005 WBA season that concluded in June.

During the WBA's post-season playoffs at Shorter College in Rome, Georgia, McCurry averaged 37 points per game, including a professional career-high of 41 points against Macon in Kentucky's 137-126 victory in the opening round. McCurry followed that effort with 33 points, 9 rebounds and eight assists on the following night in a quarterfinal loss to Mississippi.

McCurry, who currently resides in Elizabethtown, KY, was awarded second-team All-WBA by the league's coaches at the conclusion of the season.

McCurry played collegiately at Bellarmine University, where he graduated in 2002. He an All-GLVC conference selection for three seasons. McCurry is among Bellarmine's all-time leaders (top 10) in scoring, assists, steals and blocks. The sharp-shooting guard amassed 1,565 points during his career with the Knights.

He was an All-State selection during his senior season (1998) at Elizabethtown High School where he averaged 23 points, 6 rebounds and five assists per game.

Herens will begin their season on October 1, 2005. McCurry will join the team in mid-August to begin preparations for the season that runs from October thru May.
