Ken Trahan Named The "Voice of the VooDoo"

NEW ORLEANS (February 14, 2011) - The New Orleans VooDoo have hired Ken Trahan, a 34-year play-by-play veteran, as the play-by-play "Voice of the VooDoo" for radio and television, announced the front office on Saturday morning.

"Ken is a first-class, faith-based individual, and we are very proud to have him serve in this role for us," said Dan Newman, New Orleans VooDoo owner. "He works very hard at perfecting his craft, and I am every bit as confident that he will do an excellent job with the VooDoo."

As a play-by-play broadcaster, Trahan has done radio or television for the New Orleans Saints (radio-preseason-1995-1999), New Orleans Zephyrs (radio and television-1993-2000), New Orleans Night (radio-1991-1992), UNO basketball and baseball (radio and television-1982-1994, 2001-2006), Tulane football and basketball (television-1982-1998), Loyola Basketball (radio-2007-Present), Delgado Basketball and Baseball (television-2010-Present), Professional Boxing (television-1982-1989) and prep football, basketball and baseball (radio and television-1978-Present).

Trahan has hosted various television shows and previously served as Program Director at both WTIX, 690 AM and WGSO, 990 AM and worked as a sports talk show host, reporter and play-by-play voice at WWL, 870 AM from 1992-2000.

Trahan, born and raised in the New Orleans area, is currently the President and General Manager of NewOrleans.com/Sports. He has served in that role since 2008.

A versatile talent, Trahan also holds numerous titles, including General Manager and Chairman of the Board of the Saints Hall of Fame Museum in the Louisiana Superdome, Sports Director of WGSO, 990 AM, Sports Columnist for the Kenner Star and Bank Beacon newspapers, and Vice President and Emcee of the Greater New Orleans Quarterback Club. Trahan has served on the Allstate Sugar Bowl Media Selection Committee for 31 years and emcees several Sugar Bowl events.

An Archbishop Rummel High School and Loyola University alumnus, Trahan has won several awards for his work in the field that include two award-winning radio shows: "Ken Trahan's Original Prep Football Report" and "The Three Tailgaters Show" with Ed Daniels of WGNO-TV, ABC 26 and former New Orleans Saints quarterback Archie Manning.

Trahan also spent significant time in the college ranks, serving as an Assistant Athletic Director at the University of New Orleans from 2001-06. During that time, Trahan conceived, organized and played a pivotal in fundraising efforts to name Privateer Park "Maestri Field" after longtime UNO Athletics Director and baseball coach Ron Maestri.

A man guided by faith, Trahan has many ministry efforts which include Director of Life Resources Sports Ministries, which is a faith-based weekly Bible study luncheon, the Life Resources Bottom Line Sports Hour with Michael Green on WGSO, 990 AM Other faith endeavors Trahan is involved in are: the Life Resources Bottom Line Sports Hour on WGSO, 990 AM and the "Walking in the Word" radio ministry on WBSN, 89.1 FM. Trahan served previously as an area director for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes in the New Orleans area.

Trahan will be joined on air with vice president Jon Norris - a combined 24-year AFL veteran on the field as a player and behind the wall as a coach. The duo will be joined by Jimmy Frederick of Cox4 with analysis from the sideline, solidifying this season's broadcast team.
