Charleston RiverDogs News Release

RiverDogs fans have spoken ... loudly and often. And it is clear that they love popular public address announcer Ken Carrington.

In the Charleston RiverDogs inaugural Ballpark Icon Bobblehead contest, Carrington, who had trailed three others on the club's website balloting, took advantage of strong attendance for the first two homestands and narrowly won the contest. A bobblehead of Carrington will be given to the first 1,000 fans at the Aug. 23 game in which the New York Yankees affiliate host the Columbus Catfish, the class A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays, at 7:05 p.m..

Polls were open for nearly a month and voting concluded on Friday, May 2.

Carrington, who had been trailing Pat "Old Codger" Reddick, Ken "The Beer Man" and Nate "The G-Man" via the website poll, prevailed in the last few days of voting thanks in part to a great response during the team's first two homestands. Online and in-park balloting accounted for nearly 10,000 votes.

Carrington has been the RiverDogs' public address announcer since 2003. During his five seasons at The Joe, fans have become accustomed to his unique and interactive style of announcing as he roams the stands. Originally from the Augusta, GA area, Carrington, an acclaimed actor, musician and magician, has lived in Charleston for five years. Before to joining the RiverDogs, he served as the PA announcer for the Myrtle Beach Pelicans.

The official results for the 2008 RiverDogs Ballpark Icon Bobblehead are:

- Ken Carrington - 36%

- Pat "Old Codger" Reddick - 32%

- Ken "The Beer Man" - 14%

- Nate "The G-Man" - 10%

- Mr. Washington - 8%

"We are extremely pleased with the voting turnout," said RiverDogs Assistant General Manager Jim Pfander. "Ken Carrington brings a lot of energy to our games and his unique style of announcing is one of the many things that our fans love about him."

Due to the overwhelming response, the RiverDogs plan to hold another Ballpark Icon Bobblehead giveaway in 2009.
