Kemp's Late Goal Gives Breakers Tie

BOSTON, MA - Allie Kemp's 90th-minute goal gave the Boston Breakers a 1-1 tie with the Philadelphia Charge Saturday evening at Nickerson Field. Kemp's late goal came just six minutes after Philadelphia's Liu Ailing had put the Charge up 1-0.

Despite the draw, Boston (4-8-7, 19 pts.) is eliminated from the WUSA playoff race. Philadelphia (10-2-5, 35 pts.) remains in first place in the WUSA standing, two points ahead of the Carolina Courage.

On a Bad clearance by Boston's Tracy Ducar in the 84th minute, Philadelphia recorded its first and only goal of the night. With Ducar is out of position, Liu, who came in during the 63rd minute, took advantage of the 'keeper's miscue by taking a long shot on frame. The ball sailed over Ducar's hand and found the back of the net for the score. The goal was second of the season for the Chinese international.

Boston's Kemp, who came in during the 84th minute, registered the equalizer in the 90th minute. Kemp sent a low shot past Charge goalkeeper Melissa Moore, placing the ball into the lower left corner of the net. Kemp's first career WUSA goal was assisted by Kristine Lilly and Ragnild Gulbrandsen. The assist for Gulbrandsen was also her first point of her WUSA career. Lilly has now extended her point-scoring streak to eight games.

Boston is the lone WUSA team to remain unbeaten at home this season. The Breakers are 3-0-5 at home in 2002.

Forward Marinette Pichon missed the game with a big toe injury to her left foot for Philadelphia, which returns home on Saturday August 3 at 7 p.m. to play the San Diego Spirit. Pichon entered this weekend's action as the leading goal scorer in the WUSA with 13 and was tied for the lead in points with 27.
