East Kentucky Miners News Release
PIKEVILLE, KY. - Young Eastern Kentucky basketball players and hardwood hopefuls from surrounding areas will have an opportunity to attend one of three East Kentucky Pro Basketball Youth Camps during the month of June.
The camps, conducted by East Kentucky Miners Coach Kevin Keathley, will be held in three separate counties. Prestonsburg High School (June 4-6), Sheldon Clark High School (11-13) and Knott County Sportsplex (June 16-18) are set to host East Kentucky Pro Basketball Youth Camps. The timeframe for each of the three-day camps is 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
The preregistration fee for an individual East Kentucky Pro Basketball Youth Camp is $65 per participant. Two siblings in the same immediate family who preregister can attend a single camp for $100. Each additional sibling in the same immediate family will be able to attend a single camp for $35 through preregistration. The registration fee for the day of each camp is $75 per camper.
Registration for each camp will be held from 8-9 a.m. on the first day.
The fee for those who register on the morning of a camp is $75.
"I couldn't be more excited about our upcoming basketball camps," said East Kentucky Miners Coach Kevin Keathley. "The camps will provide all Eastern Kentucky youth with an opportunity to get the very best in basketball fundamentals along with important lessons that will help young players achieve maximum success throughout their basketball careers."
Voted one of the top 10 young pro basketball coaches in America in 2006, Keathley guided the East Kentucky Miners to a 26-22 record in the team's debut season. Keathley - a coach who has never endured a losing season (winning in eight straight camps) - expects a great turnout for the camps.
"I encourage parents to enroll their kids as early as possible to reserve their spot," Keathley added.
The Keathley-coached Miners set a single-game professional basketball scoring record March 2 in a 194-115 win over the Atlanta Krunk.
East Kentucky Pro Basketball Youth Camp participants will have the chance to learn fundamentals from one of the best offensive-minded coaches. Each East Kentucky Pro Basketball Youth Camp participant will receive a T-shirt, participation medal and certificate. The camps will also include giveaways and the chance to win various prizes and awards, including basketball merchandise and trophies.
Lunch will be provided from noon-1 p.m. every day at each camp. Applications are available at area schools, the East Kentucky Miners office, The Floyd County Times and other area businesses. Visitors in Pikeville for this year's Hillbilly Days can also pick up applications at the Miners booth.
Checks for the camp should be made payable to Coach Kevin Keathley. Dates for additional East Kentucky Youth Pro Basketball Camps will be announced later in the spring.
