NASHVILLE- The Nashville Kats have agreed to contract terms with DL Brian Howard and OL/DL Joel Rodriguez. As per club policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed. The Kats also parted ways with WR/LB Carlos Wright by placing him on recallable waivers and activated WR Demetris Bendross from the Refuse to Report list.
Howard, (6'4, 282 Idaho) comes to the Kats after being spending time in the NFL with the St. Louis Rams and Kansas City Chiefs. While with the Rams from 2004-2006, Howard amassed 29 total tackles (16 solo) while playing in 20 games with one start. Howard spent 2006 with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Rodriguez (6'3, 289 Miami-FL) starts his career with the Kats after spending the past two seasons with the NFL's Tennessee Titans. Originally signed by the Titans 4/29/05, Rodriquez spent time on the team's practice squad before being allocated to the Berlin Thunder where he played in 10 games with nine starts in 2006.
Bendross (5'11 180 Florida A&M) was acquired in a trade earlier this month with the Tampa Bay Storm. In 2006, he led the club in all-purpose yards with 1,598.
Wright started the season with the Kats as the team's primary kick returner, starting linebacker and reserve wide receiver. Through two games played, Wright recorded 13 returns for 263 yards, 3.5 tackles and seven catches for 64 yards and one touchdown.
The Kats' next contest will b on the road against the Austin Wranglers, Saturday, March 24. Nashville competes in the AFL's Central Division, a talent-rich division that houses the past two ArenaBowl Champions (Chicago Rush 2006, Colorado Crush 2005) and added the Kansas City Brigade in a realignment change.
