NASHVILLE (July 29, 2005) - Rich Musinski, who played as a wide receiver/defensive back for the Nashville Kats last season, has been signed by the NFL's New England Patriots. Musinski was scheduled to become an AFL free agent in October when his one-year contract with the Kats expires.
Musinski (6-0, 205) played in just two games for the Kats as a rookie in 2005, catching five passes for 64 yards. He also contributed one tackle on defense. Musinski spent the majority of the season on the team's practice squad.
The former William & Mary star still ranks as the school's all-time leader in receptions (224), receiving yards (4,168), receiving touchdowns (31), 100-yard receiving games (21) and yards per reception (18.6). Musinski, who spent last year in Tennessee Titans camp before signing with the Kats is the Atlantic 10 Conference's all-time leading receiver and one of four receivers in league history to earn first-team all-conference honors three consecutive seasons. He is one of just three players in NCAA Division I-AA history to surpass 4,000-yard receiving mark
Musinski becomes the second player from the team's 2005 roster to sign with an NFL club in the last two weeks. Lineman Joe Minucci signed with the hometown Tennessee Titans last week, and he has ben placed on the Kats' exempt roster.
