Amarillo Venom News Release
The Amarillo Dusters held a press conference today at Logan's Roadhouse to announce the signing of former Dallas Cowboy and Arena Football League star Kareem Larrimore to the roster.
Larrimore, a 5'11, 190 lb. Defensive Back/Kick Returner earned All-American Honors in 1999 at West Texas A&M University. He was drafted in the 4th round of the 2000 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys, and played cornerback for them in the 2000 and 2001 seasons. Following his release by the Cowboys, Larrimore signed with the Dallas Desparados of the AFL, the Cowboy's AFL affiliate. He earned AFL All-Rookie team honors as a Defensive Specialist in 2002. He started in the Desparados secondary in 2003, and was traded to the AFL's Chicago Rush this past off-season.
In 3 seasons of AFL action, Larrimore rackecd up 55 tackles, 10 pass break-ups and 3 interceptions. He also returned 76 kicks for 1,580 yards and 2 touchdowns.
"This is a leap of faith for our both sides, " said Dusters Director of Football Operations Warren McCarty. "Kareem reached a point in life where he looked at himself and decided it was time to start over, and to start fresh. He knows that he belongs in the NFL, but he can't get back there until he proves himself again on the field and off the field. For the past month, we've thrown a lot of obstacles in his path, and he hasn't blinked. He's living life one day at a time, and that's the way it has to be for him. He knows that, and we know that. We're in his corner, and he's matured a lot over the past 3 months. From a football standpoint, the sky's the limit in terms of his ability. He's still a 4.3, 4.4 guy. The feet are there. The instincts are there. It's all up to him. We believe that he'll succeed."
Larrimore will be in the lineup when the Dusters take on the Corpus Christi Hammerheads on Sunday afternoon at the Cal Farley Coliseum in Amarillo. Both teams are tied atop the IFL standings with 3-1 records.
