Kansas Cagerz Pose Test for Undefeated Steelheads Thursday Night

GARY, Indiana (April 18, 2007) - The undefeated Gary Steelheads expect a real test from the Kansas Cagerz at the Genesis Center Thursday night. For Kansas, this game is their USBL season opener.
The Steelheads have sprinted to a 3-0 record in the league's opening week, defeating the Jackson Wildcats twice and the Delaware Starz. Through three games, Gary is scoring at a 112.7 ppg clip, while allowing a stifling 88.7 defensively. The Steelheads have held every opponent below .380 shooting from the field. Gary also has a ten rebound edge on their opponents.
The Steelheads will be playing without the services of three key players, guard Rob Griffin, forward Jamario Moon and center Chris Alexander. Griffin and Alexander are out with injuries, while Moon has left the team temporarily due to a death in the family. The Steelheads signed guards Carl Edwards and Akeem Clark, along with forward James Booyer to fill the roster slots. Clark paced the Steelheads in the Delaware victory with 20 points. His performance was found to be even more incredible, when it was disclosed following the game that he had learned that day of his brother's death.
The Cagerz are beginning their ninth season in the USBL and are considered one of the stronger teams in the league. Veteran coach Francis Flax is returning for his seventh season as head coach. Steelheads' coach Cliff Levingston served as an assistant on the Cagerz' staff last season. Center Darrell Johns and guard Larry House are both former Steelheads' players.
