ROCHESTER, MI--- The International Hockey League (IHL) announced Tuesday that Kalamazoo left wing Anthony Battaglia has been named the 2008-09 IHL Most Sportsmanlike Player as selected by league head coaches, general managers and members of the media.
Since signing with the K-Wings in early November, the 29-year-old Chicago, Illinois native has recorded 19 goals and 31 assists for a total of 50 points in 58 games played so far this season. His 50 points ranks him fourth on the K-Wings roster in scoring. In his 58 games played so far (three remaining on the regular season), Battaglia has only accumulated 10 minutes in penalties.
Shortly after joining the K-Wings, the 6-0, 195-pound left wing tied a K-Wings' season-high by recording four points (1 goal, 3 assists) in a single game on November 15th versus Fort Wayne. His longest scoring streak of the season was seven games from February 11th thru February 25th, where he recorded four goals and five assists during that span.
The seven-year pro played his 400th career game back on January 2nd in Flint. He recorded his 300th career point on March 28th, also in Flint.
Battaglia will be presented the award on Friday, April 10th.
