Fort Wayne's Guy Dupuis Earns Pepsi Defenseman Of The Year

ROCHESTER, MI--- The International Hockey League (IHL) announced Tuesday that Fort Wayne Komet defenseman Guy Dupuis has been named the 2008-09 Pepsi Defenseman of the Year for the second consecutive season, as selected by league head coaches, general managers and members of the media.

The 38-year-old native of Moncton, New Brunswick currently leads all IHL defenseman in scoring with 67 points (16 goals, 51 assists). His 67 points make him the Komets most productive defenseman and ranks him second on the team in scoring. In 73 games played for the Komets (three remaining on the regular season), he complied a plus-32 rating and has been assessed 113 penalty minutes. His plus-32 rating leads all defenseman, as well as the entire IHL. Dupuis also leads defenseman goals (16), assists (51), shorthanded goals (3) and shots (300).

In his 12th season with the Komets, Dupuis has appeared in 802 regular season games in Fort Wayne, breaking the Komet record of 801 games set by Eddie Long. He has skated in a total (regular season and playoffs) of 866 games in Fort Wayne which ties Eddie Long who set the record in the 1965-66 season. Dupuis is expected to break the 43-year-old record for most games played as a Komet tomorrow when the Komets host the Bloomington PrairieThunder.

Dupuis will be presented with the award on Saturday, April 11th.
