Kalamazoo Xplosion 2008 Schedule Released
November 26, 2007 - Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL)
Kalamazoo Xplosion News Release
The Kalamazoo Xplosion, in conjunction with the Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL), has released its schedule for the 2008 season (Attached).
The Xplosion will kickoff its second season in the CIFL on Friday, March 7th, 2008 in Chicago to take on the Chicago Slaughter. The Xplosion lead the series 2-1 after a regular season win and a division quarterfinal win, both coming at Wings Stadium where the Xplosion are a perfect 7-0. At the Sears Centre, however, the Slaughter hold the advantage after a 51-47 win over Kalamazoo May 20th, 2007.
The men of black and yellow will play a 12 game season over 14 weeks, which includes six home games at the unfriendly confines for CIFL opponents, Wings Stadium. The 2008 season opener for the Xplosion is nearly three weeks earlier than 2007, eliminating fans having to choose between indoor football and the hot summer sun. The CIFL Championship game is scheduled to be played June 21st, more than a month earlier than last season?s grand finale.
Two bye weeks are scheduled in the regular season, the first coming in the last weekend of April and the other coming Memorial Day weekend (5/23-5/24). There will, however, be no first-round byes in the playoffs.
The first home game comes in week two when the Rock River Raptors, an expansion team from Rockford, Ill., come to Kalamazoo to play an unconventional Friday night game at Wings Stadium. The Raptors are formally of the UIF (United Indoor Football) where they won the UIF East division title in 2007.
The very next week will also feature a Friday night home game against an organization to be named later from Flint. The team has no affiliation with the Flint/Port Huron Pirates of last season, who were the only team in the CIFL the Xplosion had played and not beaten at least once. The CIFL is awaiting a press conference to formally announce the name of the Flint organization.
Just like in 2007, the CIFL will be split up into two conferences, the Atlantic Conference and the Great Lakes Conference, which the Xplosion will again be a part of. In 2008, however, the conferences will each be split up into two divisions; the east and the west. The Xplosion will be in the Great Lakes East division, along with the Miami Valley Silverbacks, Muskegon Thunder, and the expansion Fort Wayne Freedom. Each team within the division will play each other twice, once at home and once on the road.
