Game Rewind Wednesday, November 21st @ Bloomington (Bloomington 5-Kalamazoo 1)

Bloomington, IL- Snow was the overnight forecast in Kalamazoo, but in Bloomington it was a second period thunder storm that led to the K-Wings third straight loss in a 5-1 defeat to the PrairieThunder at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum.

After no scoring in the opening period, Bloomington ignited for three unanswered goals in the second stanza. Don Parsons' (3rd) slap shot from the right circle 2:45 into the period propelled the Thunder to a 1-0 lead. The goal by Parsons also ended a six period, 135:15 scoreless drought by Bloomington.

Bloomington extended its lead later in the period, when Jon Booras (5th) was successful on a penalty shot at the 9:38 mark. Five minutes later, while on a power-play, Leo Thomas skated the puck from the left corner to the slot for his first of the season, giving the Thunder a 3-0 lead.

Early in the third, Mike Bickley put the K-Wings on the scoreboard with his second tally of the season.

Bloomington closed out the scoring with two goals 43 seconds apart from one another. Thomas' second of the night extended the Thunder lead to 4-1. Putting the game out of reach was Brett Holmberg, who recorded his first of the year to make the score 5-1.

Friday, November 23rd @ Muskegon (Kalamazoo 5-Muskegon 2)

Muskegon, MI- Special teams proved to be the difference Friday in Muskegon, as Kalamazoo recorded two power-play goals and shorthanded tallies en route a 5-2 victory over the Fury.

Kalamazoo capitalized on its first power-play chance of the night, scoring just 39 seconds into the game, on a slap shot from the right point by John Miller (1st).

Muskegon knotted the contest early in the second period, with a goal from Rafal Martynowski (3rd) at the 1:13 mark.

The game got crazy midway in the stanza, as the teams scored a combined three goals in a span of 1:19. While shorthanded, Kalamazoo's Mike Manley netted his fifth of the season to help the K-Wings grab a 2-1 lead. Still on the power-play, the Fury pulled even at 2-2, when forward Mark Cadotte registered his first tally of the season.

Just 29 seconds after the Fury tied the contest, Manley (6th) answered again scoring the go ahead goal off a centering pass from Lucas Drake. The goal from Manley was his third against Muskegon this season.

Scoring its third special teams goal of the game at the 14:04 mark, the K-Wings extended its lead to 4-2 with tally from Kory Karlander (3rd).

Karlander added salt in the Fury's wound scoring an empty-netter with three tenths of a second remaining in the contest, as the K-Wings skated away with a 5-2 victory.

The victory snaps a three-game winless streak for the K-Wings. Tony Quesada knocked aside 27 shots to earn his first win of the season.

Saturday, November 24th @ Fort Wayne (Fort Wayne 4-Kalamazoo 3, Shootout)

Fort Wayne, IN- A bitter rivalry got a little more pungent as the K-Wings used a strong first period effort to take a early lead, but the Fort Wayne Komets stormed back with two power-play goals and a shorthander to defeat the K-Wings 4-3 in a shootout.

Tough to determine what was more explosive in the opening period, Kalamazoo scoring three goals or the five opening period bouts between the K-Wings and the Komets.

Picking up where he left off a night before when he recorded two points, forward Mike Manley skated behind the net and dished the puck to Travis Granbois (2nd) at 5:49 to give the K-Wings a 1-0 lead. Three minutes later, Lucas Drake sent a slap shot past goaltender Nick Boucher to extend the K-Wings lead to 2-0.

Kalamazoo's power-play received a surge with 3:30 remaining in the first, when Nick Bootland lit the lamp for his team leading ninth of the season; the point was also Bootland's 400th in his career.

On its lone power-play chance of the period, Fort Wayne's Evengy Saidachev knocked in a rebound with five seconds remaining in the first to bring the Komets within two goals at 3-1.

The two teams combined for 62 minutes in penalties in the first, highlighted by five fights, including four in the final two minutes.

Inching closer in the second period, Sergei Durdin capitalized on a 5-on-3 power-play opportunity by scoring his third of year midway through the period to bring the Komets within a single goal at 3-2.

Pulling even in the third period, Mathieu Curadeau (7th) sent a blast off both posts and past Tony Quesada to tie the game with just over nine minutes remaining in regulation.

The game remained tied at 3-3 through the third and overtime. In the shootout, the Komets outscored the K-Wings 2-0 and went on to defeat Kalamazoo 4-3.

Sunday, November 25th Vs Bloomington (Bloomington 5-Kalamazoo 4, Shootout)

Kalamazoo, MI- Putting on its Sunday's best, the Kalamazoo Wings and Bloomington PrairieThunder needed to play extra hockey to decide a winner at Wings Stadium.

It was almost a role reversal for the K-Wings, who lost Saturday night in shootout after having a 3-0 lead earlier in the evening. Today, it was Kalamazoo that erased a three-goal deficit, but for the

second straight game, the K-Wings came up short in the shootout to lose 5-4 to the Thunder.

Don Parsons figured in all of Bloomington's regulation goals, including his opening period power-play goal (5th) at 3:13 that gave the PrairieThunder a 1-0 lead.

The Thunder rolled in the second period scoring twice. Jason Ralph (5th) tipped in a rebound 38 seconds into the stanza. As a result of the goal, Kalamazoo replaced starting goaltender Tony Quesada after the netminder allowed two goals on only seven shots. Quesada was replaced by Jeremy Symington, who returned to the lineup after missing the past four games due to injury.

Less than a minute after Symington entered the contest, Parsons (6th) sent a slap shot past the goaltender to give Bloomington a commanding three-goal cushion.

Making the most of a 5-on-3 power-play, Glenn Detulleo (2nd, 3rd) brought the K-Wings back goal with a pair of goals. Detulleo one-timed a shot past Loic Lacasse at 14:25. Just 59 seconds later Detulleo, on a spinning shot from the slot, brought the K-Wings within a single goal at 3-2.

Answering the bell in the third, Jon Booras scored 23 seconds into the period to regain a two-goal lead for the Thunder.

Determined not to give-up, Kalamazoo rallied for two goals in the final six minutes of regulation to force overtime. While on the power-play, John Miller (2nd) tickled the twine make the score 4-3 Bloomington.

With time running out, Flo Iberer sent a pass up the ice to Mark Versteeg-Lytwyn who blasted a rocket from the right circle with 4.7 seconds remaining to tie the contest at 4-4.

After no scoring in overtime, Bloomington outscored Kalamazoo 2-1 in the shootout to survive 5-4.

By grabbing a point, the K-Wings remain in fourth place in the IHL and are now unbeaten in regulation in its last three games.

Bloomington's victory snaps its five-game road winless streak and propels them past Muskegon into fifth place in the league.
