Joshua Roy Named QMJHL Player of the Week for Week27
March 27, 2023 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) News Release
Montreal, QC - The final QMJHL Player of the Week for the 2022-23 regular season is Sherbrooke Phoenix winger, Joshua Roy. In three games, the 19-year-old from Saint-Georges-de-Beauce, Quebec scored five times and added four assists as the Phoenix secured top spot in the Western Conference.
On Wednesday night at home, Roy assisted on a first period tally before coming through with the overtime-winner in Sherbrooke's 4-3 triumph over the Gatineau Olympiques. The fourth-year veteran would be named the first star of the game that featured the top two Western Conference clubs.
Back at home on Friday night, Roy would score a pair of shorthanded goals, the first of which would prove to be the eventual game-winner, as the Phoenix dominated the Victoriaville Tigres by a 7-1 score. The veteran would also add an assist for his fourth straight multi-point game, while also recording a +3 rating on the evening.
Closing out the regular season on Saturday afternoon in Victoriaville, Roy scored two more goals and added two assists, extending his point streak to 11 games. His 46th and final goal of the campaign, would be the difference maker as the Phoenix rallied from a 3-1 second period deficit to earn a 5-4 overtime decision over the Tigres. The victory, Sherbrooke's 50th of the campaign, clinched the top spot in the West for the Phoenix, who enters the postseason on a six-game winning streak.
Roy completes the season with 99 points in 55 games, tied with teammate Jacob Melanson for seventh in the league scoring derby and for most on the Phoenix. A fifth-round draft pick of the Montreal Canadiens in 2021, Roy is looking to add to his trophy case this postseason after capturing gold with Team Canada at both the 2022 and 2023 World Junior tournaments.
