Lake Country DockHounds News Release
OCONOMOWOC, Wis. - The Lake Country DockHounds are inviting fans to witness history as slugger Josh Mears closes in on becoming the American Association's all-time single-season home run king.
Mears enters the week with 31 home runs, just two shy of the American Association's single-season record of 33, held by Adam Brett Walker II. The power surge continued Sunday against the Chicago Dogs, when Mears launched two home runs to put himself within striking distance of the historic mark.
With the DockHounds entering a critical stretch of the schedule, fans could have multiple opportunities to see Mears take aim at American Association history while at DockHounds Ballpark.
The DockHounds play three games at home this week, August 18-20, giving Mears three chances to tie or break the record in front of the Lake Country faithful. They then travel to Kane County for the weekend before returning home for another three-game series August 24-26.
Mears' pursuit of the record has become one of the most exciting individual stories in DockHounds history and adds another layer to an already memorable season at the ballpark.
"Josh has been incredible all season and watching him chase this record has been something really special," said Bryan Giese, Director of Marketing. "To have the opportunity to potentially see the American Association's all-time single-season home run record broken right here at home is an incredible moment for our organization, our fans and Josh."
Fans are encouraged to get to the ballpark for the DockHounds' upcoming home games and be part of the chase as Mears looks to etch his name into the American Association record book.
