Jonathan Grant Named in Guyana Squad for Crucial Gold Cup Prelims
Published on June 14, 2023 under Canadian Premier League (CPL)
York United FC News Release
York United FC defender Jonathan Grant has been included in the Guyana squad for their upcoming 2023 Gold Cup preliminary qualifiers in Fort Lauderdale.
The 29-year-old, who has proven to be an astute signing for Martin Nash this season, was previously involved with the team in March and started both CONCACAF Nations League games - the 2-0 win over Bermuda and a 0-0 draw against Montserrat - that booked their place in this stage of the tournament.
On June 17th, Guyana face Grenada in the first round. A victory will see them advance and meet either Antigua & Barbuda or Guadeloupe in the second round, with a place in Group D and a meeting with Canada at BMO Field on June 27 the ultimate reward.
Grant - a three-time Canadian Premier League champion - is in a rich vein of form with The Nine Stripes. He's appeared in the team's last five games and started the last three as the club racked up 13 points from a possible 15 over the past few weeks and even sat proudly at the top of the CPL standings following last Friday's home win over Atletico Ottawa at York Lions Stadium.
