John Jenkins hired as Renegades' new Director of U.S. Scouting

OTTAWA - The Ottawa Renegades Football Club announced Monday afternoon that John Jenkins has been hired as the team's new Director of U.S. Scouting.

"We feel very good about being able to get John Jenkins and have him working for us," said Forrest Gregg, executive vice-president of football operations for the Renegades. "John is a very motivated, self-starter who has a good idea for finding players and a solid track record of recruiting top talent."

Jenkins begins his new role with the Renegades immediately and will among the Ottawa scouting staff attending NFL training camps and U.S. college games.

Jenkins is a 30 year veteran that brings a wealth of experience to the Renegades. After serving as offensive coordinator for nine pro teams (his last stop in the CFL was with the Calgary Stampeders as offensive coordinator in 2004), the former head coach at the University of Houston will primarily focus o! n personnel work for Ottawa. In the past, Jenkins was also offensive coordinator in the USFL for the Houston Gamblers and New Jersey Generals.

"I'm really excited to be joining the Renegades and working for Forrest Gregg," said Jenkins, who will be based out of the United States. "I have great amount of respect for the Renegades organization and I think the fans should be excited for this year and the future. Forrest Gregg and I go back many years and I have a great admiration for him."

Renegades head coach and general manager Joe Paopao will also have another "set of eyes" looking for talent in the U.S., which, he says, will be a big benefit to the club.

"John is a football man and he will be working hard to find this team the best players," said Paopao. "I am looking forward to working with John and having him on board with us."

Ottawa returns to action on home turf Thursday, July 21 for a Week 5 affair against the Edmonton Eskimos at Frank Clair Stadium.
