New York Cosmos News Release
NEW YORK (Aug. 18, 2015) - The New York Cosmos announced today that goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer has signed a multi-year contract extension with the team. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"I'm pleased that the contract talks went smoothly and that it's all sorted out with the club," Maurer said. "I've been with the Cosmos since 2013 and want to continue to be a part of things going forward. There's no question that this is where my family and I want to be for the forseeable future."
Since becoming the starting goalkeeper at the beginning of 2014, Maurer, 26, has made 41 appearances for the Cosmos (with 17 shutouts and 110 saves). Following the 2014 season, he was named to the NASL Best XI.
"Jimmy has great quality and is an important player for us," head coach Giovanni Savarese said. "Though he's young, he's already had extensive experience for us in pressure situations and continues to get better year by year."
Prior to his arrival in New York, Maurer played with Universidad de Concepción in the Chilean Primera Division. A former star at the University of South Carolina, Maurer started all 78 games of his four-year collegiate career with the Gamecocks, recording the second-most shutouts in school history (28).
